Thanksgiving -- what should I bring?

We're invited to my sisters for Thanksgiving--this is her first holiday, what should I bring? Mind you I'm not a cook I usually bring dessert.

If you have an easy recipe (and one that transports easly), please share--thanksChat Icon

If it's her first time hosting I would offer to bring some sides to help her out. Sweet potatoes, homemade cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, creamed onions would all travel well.

I agree with the above - and what might also be nice would be to bring the things in serving dishes that she can keep, to build her collection, if she doesn't have stuff already... even just plan glass or ceramic ones would be nice.

i like the above ideas!

A pumpkin pie is super easy to make.. And you can give her the pie dish to keep.

Sides- you can do something easy- peas and onions or spinach and have her keep the dish you bring it in...

All of the above responses are great!

I've brought Giada's stuffed mushrooms for Thanksgiving a few times and everyone raves about them. I make it exactly as the recipe states but I add some shredded mozzarella to the mixture.

ETA- I also throw the stems into the food processor with a little garlic and add them to the mixture.

I would just ask her. Tell her you want to help by bringing something and let her make suggestions. I know when I host, even the 1st time, I plan my menu pretty well and don't expect anyone to bring anything. I would gladly offer suggestions or hand something over if someone asked! I agree whatever you make or bring take in a container she can keep. It's a great gift as well.
