Anyone worry...
about what all these hormone drugs are doing to their bodies or do you not think about it since the end result is obviously a baby?
I am asking because I just received a HUGE box of meds for my first IVF cycle and I'm freaking out a bit. At my CD3 appt, my hubby asked the Dr. about the hormones causing cancer. Dr. said there are conflicting studies- most agree that females w/ infertility problems have a higher percentage of getting certain cancers but they differ in that some say it is because these couples don't ever become pregnant (a lot of studies also say the more children you have, the likelihood of certain cancers continue to decrease) and the other studies blame the meds. What about other diseases or birth defects which can affect the baby?

Re: Anyone worry...
I know the cancer increase is connected to the high amounts of estrogen. Same as women who generally have high estrogen levels are at a higher risk for breast and uterine cancers. I have naturally high estrogen and was warned by my Doc. My RE said there are always risks with IF but you have to weigh in the positives too. Many women would have no ability to have a baby without these amazing meds. I am totally with you on being nervous about the meds and potential birth defects. One study I read was linking the increase in birth defects to poor egg/sperm quality, not IVF itself.

I worried about it and still do. Luckily, I was on very low doses for my cycles although my E2 level did spike all 3 times. There is ZERO chance I would be pregnant without IVF.

I think about it ALL. THE. TIME! I also worry about what it could do to my unborn child. I worry about downs, autism, ADHD, birth defects, cancer....EVERYTHING!
However, my only other option would be to not have children, and that's really NOT an option. I just hope and pray that I will conceive and we will both be perfectly healthy!

Yes, but those things happen with or without fertility meds. To me, living my life with my dd is way more fulfilling and I'm not going to live my life in fear of that stuff. I lost my mom to cancer. She lost her mom to cancer when she was only 13. There are no guarantees in life. Anything could happen but for me I would have done anything, and did, to have my dd.
Remember steel magnolias? "I'd rather have 5 minutes of wonderful than a lifetime of nothing special". Or something like that.

I really dont think abt it. I mean, how would that help? I still would have gone thru all these fertility treatments as not having a baby was never an option. DH has a health problem he was born with being born to a perfectly super healthy super young mom. As PP said this stuff happens even without treatments all the time. worrying abt it doesnt help other than adding extra unnecessary stress.
ETA: getting all the meds for IVF the first time is veryyyyy overwhelming. I know I was freaking out just thinking that all of that will go into my body. In the end u deal with it and it goes all very slowly day by day.

Re: Anyone worry...
I don't think about it. You can get cancer from nothing and everything. Many times is can't be prevented or you have no idea why you got it. To me, starting a family was more important than potential risks that may or may not really exist.
