Re: Did anyone choose NOT to do ICSI......
If you have make factor, I wouldn't chance not doing it.
With DOR you won't have many eggs and will make factor, the little eggs you have may not get fertilized.
Dr said we "shouldn't " need it but we signed papers saying if they aren't fertilizing on their own to go ahead and do the icsi
We are definitely doing assisted hatching

Why would you NOT do it? It only increases your chances?

Re: Did anyone choose NOT to do ICSI......
We have slight male factor and I am AMA. We did ICSI. The benefits far outweighed the risks. My RE is rather conservative and he reccomended it right away.
I trust my doctor more than I trust Dr Internet.

We did icsi, but we had no choice. I would suggest doing half and half if you are hesitant.

no. if its offered and your insurance covers it, there is really no logical reason not to do it. there is research out there showing the connection between pretty much every undesirable outcome and disease linked to IVF in one way or another. the risks associated with IVF are what they are so if you are willing to do IVF there is little reason not to do ICSI as well. FWIW we had 18 eggs and every single one fertilized with ICSI.

Re: Did anyone choose NOT to do ICSI......
Yes, part of my hesitation is the increase in birth defects from it- slightly more than reg IVF. I know it's slight, but there's still that increase. Second, it's taking out the 'natural selection' of sperm to egg. With IVF, there's still that selection process of nature and the million sperm fight to get in that egg and the right one wins. With ICSI, they choose the sperm to go in and to ME, that just bothers me. I can't explain it. My nurse practitioner said that is the main reason many women opt out of it so I know I am not alone or crazy for feeling uncomfortable with it. I wish I didn't have this in the back of my head like most of you ladies. I do want a baby more than anything but IVF is not always the easiest decision and I am dealing with the cards I have been given. My RE knows my concerns and did mention that we can try natural fert for the first day and if that's a no go, we can do ICSI. Either way, they are filtering out his strongest sperm and his only issue is slight morph and we have gotten preg on our own a few times this year. I am doing the assisted hatching though. My eggs need all the help they can get.

Re: Did anyone choose NOT to do ICSI......
We did ICSI. Even with it, the first time 2 out of 5 fertilized and the second time, only 1 out of 6. We're dealing with DOR/AMA, plus my DH had to have TESE, so male factor as well. ICSI is not a guarantee of fertilization, it just increases the likelihood.
