Kids in wedding party & sitter

My SIL is getting married in 2015.

DS will be 6 3/4 at that time.

He and his cousins (2 his same age, one 2 years younger) will all be in the wedding party and of course are invited to the reception.

My entire family from both sides will be at the wedding.

Do you think it's probably a wise idea to start thinking about sitters (we don't have anyone now since only family watch him).

There is no way at just about 5 years old I would ever want to bring him to a wedding, but this is obviously different, and I am sure a lot can change with his demeanor between now and then.

I think my SIL who has kids is thinking it's a good idea to have a sitter lined up too.

What are your thoughts?

Kids in wedding party & sitter

My nephews (as well as my SIL & brother - their parents) were in my wedding party. They were 7 & 9 at the time. I was planning on having someone come to the wedding to "watch" them. (SIL's friend or older niece, both of whom I'd met and who had babysat my nephews before) My SIL said she didn't think it would be necessary so we wound up not having anyone. The boys were great the whole time and had a lot of fun. I definitely don't think its a bad idea to have a sitter there, but do your son and his cousins play well together and get along? If they can keep themselves occupied, then it might not be necessary. But if it would allow you to have a better time, go for it!

I think he will mature a lot by then. I would see where he's at 6 months before and see if you think he can handle the day. There will be lots of stop and go moments, could be a very exhausting day. Will the sitter just be watching your child or all the children and do the children get along well? I would totally have a sitter in the back of my mind for this.

My son is 5 and was just the ring bearer in my cousin's wedding. He came to the reception and had a ball! No sitter necessary. He was dancing his little tush off the whole time. And this is a kid who is not a night owl. I wouldn't bother, imo.

My 6 1/2 year old would not need a sitter if she were to attend a wedding now.

Same. In fact, my 6.5 year old was my 'date' to a wedding back in September and he partied his tush off, was basically the rock star of the wedding.

my kids were 3 & 1 at a wedding they are both in, neither one needed a sitter, they had a blast.

they will both be in another wedding march 2014 and are now 6 & 4 and will not be needing a sitter either.

No way would I bring kids that young to a wedding. IMO, weddings are an adult affair. Kids would be bored to tears.

My girls were just in my SIL's wedding this summer, they were 2 and 5. They had a BLAST. It was a long day, and they did just fine. They danced, they ate, they danced more, they ate more, and played and played with aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents......... there were plenty of people dancing and playing with them, no sitters needed. They conked out in the car on the way home. They were fine during the ceremony, too.

Not at all. DD was a flower girl at my brothers wedding when she was 2.5 and my nephew was the ringbearer at age 7 and they both had a blast. They were dancing up a storm.

OP I don't think you will need a babysitter at all. DD is going to be a flowergirl this July in my cousins wedding and I don't plan on bringing a sitter. She definitely won't need one..
