Is it just a steamer insert for a regular pot? I have one and other than making baby food, I mostly just use it for broccoli. It wouldn't be worth it to me if it was a whole separate appliance or pot but a small, inexpensive insert does the trick when I need it.

Same except I do steam and just use the easy steel basket. I am also not a gadget person the simpler the better

That looks awesome. I would use it. But only you know if you would use it. Do you normally steam food? There were things I "wanted" to use and things I actually needed/used. I registered for way too many things I didn't actually end up using/needing and having to buy myself many necessities. Just decide if it will be an everyday gadget (keep) or a once in awhile thing (forget it)

IMO, get the insert unless you're an avid steamer.

Re: food steamer..Updated with pic!

I have one that I got years ago. I used to use it a lot, but now I find that if I want to have steamed veggies, I usually by the microwaveable steam fresh bags of things. It's quicker/easier. I don't really steam a lot of food anymore, either - I like to roast veggies, and I don't make steamed dumplings or that type of thing. So I was actually thinking of getting rid of mine. But at one point I used it a lot.

That being said - I have a lot of specialty food type items and appliances (many that I got at my wedding shower or from my registry), and I had a lot of non-necessities on my wedding registry. I am glad that I got them. I enjoy and use them all. They weren't all the most practical things, and some were definitely luxury items, but I feel like a wedding registry is a good place to get some frivolous things or things you wouldn't go out and buy yourself, IF you would like it and use it.

I lived with my DH prior to getting married, so I wasn't starting from scratch. And likewise, I know the OP already has a house, etc. with her FH. So I say have a little fun with your registry and go for it, even if it's not something you will use every day!
