Composite vs Wood deck?
I'm looking to make a small deck in the corner of my yard for just the fire pit. I haven't done the measurements yet. The deck off my house is wood and definitely needs to be treated (i just moved in 5 months ago). I'm trying to decide if we should do the composite or wood. is composite really worth the extra money??

Composite vs Wood deck?
I'm going composite for a few reasons. One of which is the wood on our current deck (while pressure treated and good) has warped from the pool water.

Re: Composite vs Wood deck?
The previous owners of our house put a composite deck in around the pool. I am not a fan at all. It isn't even that old and it looks terrible already. I would rather pavers but we're leaving it in until it needs to be replaced and then we'll do the pavers.
If it's for a fire pit, I would def look into a paver patio. You can have it raised if you wanted to. It will look nicer for longer and you won't have to worry about damage from the heat.

Composite vs Wood deck?
Not a good idea to get composite for a fire pit. We have a text deck, while I do love it, it is a small deck and we aren't able to put our BBQ up there. Our contractor advised us not to because the heat of the BBQ can melt the rails...

Re: Composite vs Wood deck?
We did Timberteck, but it is some sort of newer version and a more expensive line they have. We have a LARGE deck, while it is beautiful, we were surprised at how dirty it always looks. Pressure washing, you have to be careful, DH put small hole because it kept it in one spot for too long. We do have a fireplace and the hearth is all to code but we still want to put a BBQ mate in front. If embers go on it, it will melt. So for the fire pit I would either do pavers or stone.
With all that said, I would still do composite again over wood. I like that idea that is maintenance free and no splinters with the kids.

We have a Trex deck (I assume that was what you were trying to say) and we have a BBQ on it with no issues at all. Also have plastic rails, and the BBQ is right next to the rail with no issue.
That being said, for the firepit I'd do a brick/stone patio. I wouldn't put it on any other surface besides that (no grass/wood/composite) but then again I'm ultra cautious about that kind of stuff.
