tomato question

Can I use fresh tomatoes in place of canned whole tomatoes? If yes, would I have to somehow peel them first? It's for pizza sauce which is not being cooked before baking if that matters. I have 4 vine ripened tomatoes so I'm thinking that should be enough.

i'm sure you can, but they might be more watery than the tomatoes from the can. if you want to peel it, cut an x at the non-stem end, and submerge in boiling water for a minute. then dunk in ice water to stop it from cooking. you should be able to pull the peel off then.

Thanks! Maybe I'll just use a can of crushed. IDK, last time I made homemade pizza the sauce was not good and ruined it for me so I really don't want to not like it again!

What about just using whole sliced tomatoes instead of sauce?

Re: tomato question

I think using fresh tomatoes makes a sweeter sauce. Just cut them in 1/2 and put them in the garlic sautee. Pull out the tomato skin toward the end or purée them.

Re: tomato question

we always throw in fresh tomoatos into our sauce if we have them around. we just cook them in and puree it all together. It's def a thinner consistency and sweeter taste
