When you did your IVF injections class did your partner go with you? Wondering how important it is to have him miss work tomorrow for an hour to go with me. I did the IUI injections class and he helped me with the shots in the beginning by watching the helpful videos on the Freedom site. Does he physically have to be there for the IVF class? Thanks ladies! Chat Icon

He definitely does not need to go.

Re: Did your partner go to IVF injections class w/you?

I had him come with me because he was giving me the injections. Plus I wanted him to truly understand everything I was doing to my body for the chance of having a baby.

I felt it was important.

But does he HAVE to? No.

My DH didn't go and I never attended an injections class either -- the nurses just showed me how to do it. DH did watch some online videos though since he had to give me my intramuscular shots -- I gave myself the subcutaneous ones. I will say something that helped DH (and give me piece of mind, too!) was that the nurses took a sharpie marker and drew 2 large circles on my lower back/top buttocks area and these were the "bulls eyes" for DH to give me the shots -- any where inside the circles was okay. He was already nervous enough giving them to me the first few times -- this took away the stress of making sure it was in the right spot!

THANK YOU! This was very helpful. I think going alone will be OK since I have done subcutaneous before. They want me to go because I never did intramuscular. He was good last time with the online videos and I am sure it will be OK again. Wow. This is really happening....Chat Icon

Nope. He even did them the first cycle but I just showed him what to do.

I never took an actual class the nurse just showed me real quick (maybe because I'm a nurse lol). DH did not go to any classes let alone monitoring. Only the transfer days (when I did IVF at NSLIJ) and for his specimen when I switched to RS of NY. Also 1 sonogram appointment after my BFP.

I would always schedule the 6:30 am appointment and would go straight to work so it was just easier.

Yeah we are required to take the class prior to beginning IVF at my RE's office. At least I am, many women bring their partners. I didn't do so for the IUI class. Was wondering if there was a need to drag him to do this. Looks like I will just go so I can check it off our check list of "musts" and he can watch the online classes as need. Thank you!

My RE required him to be there because that's when they have you sign all of the consent forms. I'd check with them to be sure that they don't need him there.

^)#*$^*)#^$!!! OMG you are right!!! I totally forgot. We need to both sign the consent forms in front of our nurse or else we have to go to a notary. THANK YOU FOR THE REMINDER! That would have sucked!!!

Re: Did your partner go to IVF injections class w/you?

We both just watched the videos online. Didn't need the class thank God. Unless you are planning on having him do the injections for you, it's not totally necessary to have him come. I did all my shots myself so he wasn't too necessary.

My DH travels to frequently for work and I knew I couldn't stick myself, so my mom came with me.

Thanks ladies. He did come with me but only to sign the IVF consent forms and then he went back to work. I am glad he didn't stay. It was basically the same as when I did an IUI and timed intercourse. And as you all pointed out, everything is available online and the one thing I will need him for is that one HCG butt shot Chat Icon
