IUI questions
I am currently going to LIIVF and am on my first Clomid/IUI cycle and should be returning to get my sonogram on day 11 this Saturday to see how the Clomid is working. I do have some questions though if you can help me out.
1. Do they schedule an IUI the same day of your sonogram if the follicles are ready or do you wait some days before returning to get an IUI?
2. What happens if the follicles are not ready? Do you have to return for another sonogram or will they just let you know when to trigger?
3. Also, how does the planning work? What happens if you can't go the day they suggest? There is one day next week that my DH and I would not be able to do an IUI on because he is getting a small procedure done and he will be out the whole day and i will be without transportation.
*Update 9/6/14*
So i have four follicles one measuring at 22mm, the other at 14mm and two others at 11mm.
But i got my blood test results back and they said the blood tests indicates that i'm not ready yet to trigger. They wanted me to come tomorrow to do sono and blood again but i will be in New Jersey all day. They feel that the 22mm follicle will be ready very soon. I didn't think anything would be happening so early on thats why i was worried about later on in the week. So now i have to go in Monday to see whats going on. The chances of the 22 follicle being there still is slim or it may be bigger on Monday, which is no good.

Re: IUI questions
Are you triggering? Normally, you go back on day 11 (or whenever) and if your follies are big enough, you will trigger. Your IUI will be scheduled about 36 hours later.
If your husband isn't available the day you will have your IUI, you can usually drop the sample off yourself. Or you can have him freeze a sample ahead of time. But you'd still need to get to the dr. If your IUI is on a day you can't get to the dr, then you can just do timed intercourse and no IUI.

1 and 2-Are you monitoring at home for ovulation or are triggering? I took a home ovulation test daily the first IUI and ovulated about 3 days after my sono. The second time was a chlomid cycle and they triggered me 4 days after my sono because I didn't ovulate yet and follies were large. They determine trigger a lot of time based on follie sizes I believe.
3. Like PP said you can drop off DH's sample or freeze. If transportation is an issue see if you can work around the trigger. If you ovulate on your own/in the meantime you need to be very careful with timing. They like to do IUI 24-36 hours after trigger or natural ovulation. Good luck!!

IUI questions
I will be triggering. I will probably have to see what happens. Theres no way i would be able to get there that day so going on my own is not an option. Just hoping that isn't "the day" for anything and i'm worried for nothing.

Re: IUI questions
Make sure you tell them your concerns about the timing. It all depends on the size. If the majority are mature they may trigger you and you can come in next day. I hope it all work out for you. I know how stressful timing is. My hubby has a crazy job so trying to cooridinate on top of the anxiety of everything is hard. It will all work out.

Re: IUI questions
1. Do they schedule an IUI the same day of your sonogram if the follicles are ready or do you wait some days before returning to get an IUI?
usually they schedule it according to the size of your follies. It took 3 or sometimes four times of me going there for blood and sono for them to schedule the IUI.
2. What happens if the follicles are not ready? Do you have to return for another sonogram or will they just let you know when to trigger?
yes, you have to keep going back. Monitoring is usually early I believe from 6am to 8am. you have 24 to 36 hours from the time you trigger to back for the IUI.
3. Also, how does the planning work? What happens if you can't go the day they suggest? There is one day next week that my DH and I would not be able to do an IUI on because he is getting a small procedure done and he will be out the whole day and i will be without transportation.
I would let them know what your schedule is at the time.
Best of luck to you!

Re: IUI questions
1. Do they schedule an IUI the same day of your sonogram if the follicles are ready or do you wait some days before returning to get an IUI?
If your follicle(s) are mature, they will administer you the trigger shot that day, and you would come back for the IUI 24-36 hours later.
2. What happens if the follicles are not ready? Do you have to return for another sonogram or will they just let you know when to trigger?
If the follicles are not yet mature, they will bring you back usually 2-3 days later. The theory is, is follicles grow on average 2mm a day. So, if today you have a 14mm, then they will likely bring you back 2 days later hoping that 14 grew into an 18mm which is considered mature. Once it is determined that you have a mature follicle, they will trigger you
3. Also, how does the planning work? What happens if you can't go the day they suggest? There is one day next week that my DH and I would not be able to do an IUI on because he is getting a small procedure done and he will be out the whole day and i will be without transportation
If you or your DH are unable to attend the IUI, then your doctor will likely trigger you and have you do TI.
Best of luck- hopefully everything works out and both you and your DH can attend!

Re: IUI questions
pretty much what everyone else said. Also, some RE's will do IUI's 24 hours after trigger and some will do 36 hours after trigger. I have done both and have had BFN's with both so I really don't know which one is better! Best of luck!!

Going on your own is never an option anyway. Your DH needs to provide the sample!

She could bring it with her or freeze a sample ahead of time.
