Unexplained infertility?

Does anyone have unexplained infertility?

DH and I have been ttc for almost 2 years. We both got checked out and are going to Cornell. My AMH was good, tubes clear, and lining has no problems. I ovulate on my own and have pretty regular cycles (26-28 days). My TSH was a little high (3.1) so I started Synthroid a few months ago and it's now 1.5

We both eat very healthy and are not overweight, or extremely underweight. I'm 35- ok I'm not in my 20s but I've been trying since I was 33.

DH's SA was good. When he had his SA, his count was 39 million with 35 percent motility. We did an IUI a few weeks ago and his count that time was 36 million with 42 percent motility. Once they washed it, his motility was 80 percent.

I'm getting AF soon..i can feel it. So the IUI didn't work. I just don't get it. How could we have gone 2 years without 1 single pregnancy? I read all these success stories where people were told they can't get pg, and then they end up getting pg withing a year. We are told everything checks out ok, and yet 2 years later, nothing.

Anyone else going through this?

Unexplained infertility?

We were unexplained. Took us a year and a half including 4 iuis and z2 fresh Ivfs to have dd. It almost makes it worse being unexplained bc there's nothing to "fix".

Unexplained infertility?

It's awful Chat Icon Like you, I also wasn't terribly overweight, either was DH. His SA's were all perfect, all of my tests checked out, no endo, a VERY regular AF and ovulated on my own every time. It just didn't happen for us. Also started when I was 33/34, DH is the same age.
I had 4 iui's both medicated and not medicated (failed), then I got pregnant with my twin DD's on the first fresh IVF cycle. I always wondered what it could have been.
Right after DD's were born during my C-Section I asked the Dr. to look and probe in there to see if there were any issues. Nope!

When the girls were about 16 months old, I got pregnant with my current baby- on our own. I am 38 years old. I never thought I would have had to suddenly use Birth Control after all of those years of trying + procedures.

If I had to do it over again, I'd look over the statistics of iui's more carefully and go right to IVF. UIF was emotionally draining and financially exhausting. I hope that for you the process is shorter and less daunting. Chat Icon Good luck and welcome to the board. Everyone here is so awesome and supportive!

Unexplained infertility?

They said mine was unexplained, although I had a fibroid, once it was removed it shouldn't have been an issue getting pregnant.

He did do a D&C just before a IVF in case there was any scar tissue from the surgery.

But DHs counts were always really high, the nurses called him a rock star on numerous occasions (which highly embarrassed him) and there was no logical reason why I wasn't getting pregnant once the fibroid was out.

Re: Unexplained infertility?

We started trying when I was 29 and DH was 34. We were perfect on paper so it was so frustrating. 3 years later, 7 iuis and on my first IVF I got my Chat Icon Chat Icon. I believe for unexplained IF, IVF has a very good success rate.

As LIRascal said, who thinks about birth control after all we had been through??? Well when my twins were 8 months old, I got pregnant on my own! We were shocked. DH is still shocked.Chat Icon so I now have 3 kids under 3 and yeah we use birth control now.

Hang in there. It's very tough being told everything is fine and yet you're still not pregnant.

Re: Unexplained infertility?

Same story as me.

I was just a bit younger (a little over 30 when I started getting myself worked up).

Had my Chat Icon via IVF after failed IUIs, lots of tears

Got pregnant with my Chat Icon the second month I got my period back naturally. Thought: Ohhhh, THIS is how people are supposed to get pregnant. My hubby thought: don't get your hopes up, it CAN'T be right

Now, I'm trying to have a 3rd. Been some years & I think I'm back to IF land.

My personal theory is that something about being pregnant re-sets your hormones (but only for a while). My skin was different, hair was different. Why wouldn't my ability to get pregnant be different? For IVF, they totally control your hormones & I think this is what does the trick. Maybe someday, they will figure it out, but I will be too old by then.

Good luck!

Unexplained infertility?

We were unexplained. Its a frustrating diagnosis. Started TTC at 30 and conceived at 32 (currently I am 33 and 24 weeks) after a year and a half of fertility treatments. I did 6IUIS, 3 IVFS, and 1 FET. I had soooo many tests and everything always came back good. DH was fine as well. We are both healthy and a normal weight. Our RE was as surprised as we were that nothing was working. I just knew something wasn't right so I switched REs and got immune testing. That was the best decision I ever made. An immune issue was found and I was put on meds and conceived via IVF.

My advice to you is to not give up and to seek answers. Go with your gut and be your best advocate. Also if a RE isn't working for you change.

Best of luck down this crappy road.

We are unexplained also. It's very frustrating. My very first IUI was successful but I have had a lot of difficulty with #2. Just have faith and try not to stress about it (I know that's a ridiculous statement but it's true-how many women do you hear about who give up on fertility treatments and get prego naturally their next cycle?). It will happen. Don't count this cycle out. Sometimes signs of implantation mimic PMS symptoms! Good luck!Chat Icon Chat Icon

We were unexplained as well. I had 6 IUIs, 12 medicated cycles, almost 3 years of TTC and we got pregnant both times on our own (by the grace of God). the first one ended in MC at 6w3d but I'm holding strong onto this little one at 8 weeks so I just pray daily and thank God. We're very lucky. We were basically just about to start considering IVF.

We are unexplained as well. Conceived Chat Icon 7 years ago while on BCP, go figure. Got pregnant first month of trying again 2 years ago for baby #2 but miscarried. We tried to get pregnant on our own for a year. Nothing. Finally went to an RE and was told I have PCOS and was put on metformin which helped regulated my cycles. We thought that's all we needed. Wrong. Three timed cycles with clomid, and IUI all failed. Just completed my first IVF cycle and found out I am pregnant. The worst part of being unexplained is not being able to blame it on something. It's just out of no where. It's been a long 2 years.

Unexplained infertility?

We were unexplained as well. Took 18 months. We did iui's with just clomid then once injectibles were added we got out bpf. We are going to hopefully start trying again next year and we are going to go straight to the Drs. I don't want to wait another 18 months if I can help it. Unexplained sucks because its just a hopeful guess of what will work.
