HSG?
Hi all,
I wanted to know about the HSG test, I believe this is the test where they inject dye into your tubes to see if there's any blockage... anyway, I just had my 4th failed IUI. Is this something I should be requesting, or does your RE automatically refer you for this? I can't go back to my RE this month (and possibly going forward) because I can't get to monitoring appointments so not sure if this is something I should be exploring. Also, is this procedure done in the RE's office or an outside office? Is it covered by insurance (I have GHI if that matters)?

The HSG should be part of your work up before you start treatment, mainly bc it checks for blocked tubes, fibroids, scarring and abnormalities within the uterus. If you have any of these, certain treatements such as IUI will not be an option. I am surprised you did not have this before the IUI's???
I went to RSoNY for my initial workup so they gave me a prescription for it and had me do it on a specific day of my cycle. I was given doxycycline to take prior to it to avoid infection which is a normal preventative measure.
You can have the test where you prefer (has to be a radiology place) but I had mine in Zwanger and Pisiri and I believe they only do it in certain locations. I think mine was done in Lindenhurst.
I have GHI (NYPD) and it was completely covered, no issues and they usually preauth it anyway when you make the initial appt. They are pretty efficient there. Good luck!

Thanks Lillies... I go to RS of NY but they never told me I needed to get it done, so i'm surprised that this is supposed to be a part of their initial workup. I am TTC #2 and I have had 4 failed IUI's and no mention of it so far. I left a message for a nurse to call me back, so I will mention it when they call. Good to know its covered!

HSG?
An HSG should be one of the first tests that is even done.
My OB/GYN did it even before I saw an RE. It would be done by an Radiologist in their office.

Same thing happened to me, and *I* was the one who called up the nurse to ask for a script because it was never done initially (this is after being a patient of theirs for 2 years). For this, and many other reasons I don't want to post on here, is why I am no longer a patient of theirs.
Good luck though, I truly hope in your case it was just a clerical error with the doctor thinking you already has this test done.

Nooooo. I was hoping for good news.
As for the hsg, my re made me get one done before we even started any medicated cycles. I had it done at a different location they referee me too. I believe mine was covered, mostly?, by insurance.
It's a good thing to make sure there's no blockages before wasting time and money on treatments. Sometime people get pregnant right after it bc it flushes out everything in the tubes and clears them.

I never had the one with the dye and I am currently a patient at RS of NY but even when I was with NS I didn't have this done. More than likely because we know my reason for IF.

I know Trivax generally does not run the HSG but it is part of Sung's initial work up for every new patient, no matter what. I would try and get it done, even if it's for more info about your case.

To update, I was told that an HSG is only done if I had a history of pelvic inflammatory disease or chlamydia... doesn't make sense to me.
Well, I am hoping for the super slim chance that i'll get a natural BFP this month.
