When to tell teachers - vacation

We are going away for a week in late February. DS is in kindergarten. When do you usually give the heads up for vaca? We've been going every year and I forget when I used to tell his preschool and preK teachers. I guess December/January and remind them again as it gets closer?

I know I have to send in a note for the teacher and the office. Just asking since we were never given work to bring with us before, but now he's in kindergarten so of course I want him to keep up with the class and go over the work with him while on vacation.
Thanks

When to tell teachers - vacation

We went away in September and I gave the teacher a heads up 2 weeks before. Then reminded her the week of so I can get all of his work on Friday.

Re: When to tell teachers - vacation

We're taking the kids to Disney in a few weeks and my DD will be missing 6 days of school. We let her teacher know at back to school night in September. She had no problem with it, she said to just send in a note as we get closer with the dates and she will take care of everything in the office.

The school doesn't have a problem with absences for vacation but they won't give work ahead of time, her teacher will give her anything missed when she gets back.

I tell them about 2 weeks out. Some teachers give work in advance, some don't, just depends. In K, my dd's teacher gave her a vacation journal to complete for the 2 days she was out.

No more than a week in advance is necessary. You may or may not get work beforehand, but you'll most likely get it after!

I usually mention it when I see them (like parent teacher conference) and then send in a note the week before reminding them and asking if there us anything we should do while we're away.
