Dentist Anyone?

Hi All,

I am 26 weeks pregnant and my teeth are sore along with my gums.....My gyno has suggested I see a dentist, but made it clear that what I'm experiencing is usually perfectly normal....

I am scheduled for a cleaning tomorrow, but I'm so nervous because when I floss and brush now, I do get some gum bleeding and I believe this is due to the hormones from being pregnant. I'm just afraid of bleeding and causing more of an issue....

Has anyone been to the dentist while pregnant for a cleaning and experienced what I'm kind of feeling?

Dentist Anyone?

i went to the dentist slightly before TTC. I am now 6 months (weird... they haven't sent me a card). I plan to wait until after to go back. I have always gotten regular checkups/ cleanings so I figure missing one will be fine.
My teeth have been bleeding when i floss as well. The ob said it was normal, so I will just deal with it for now .

I have a cleaning appointment in early November and I'll be right around 4 months at that point -- I plan on keeping the appointment. I'm debating whether or not to let them do the x-rays since I'm due this visit -- they always use the lead protective shield, but a part of me is uneasy by it.

Dentist Anyone?

I broke my back tooth last week. I needed to get it checked out. So I made an appointment. When I got there they had the last set of xrays I had done - from a year ago. The one dentist told me I should get them done, but I was adamant that I didn't want them, so they didn't do them. It seemed it was my filling/part of my tooth that broke off so they ended up refilling it. They said it was safe to do the Novocaine, but i skipped that as well. The dentist did mention that bleeding gums were completely normal and nothing to worry about.

It sounds like you have pregnancy gingivitis. It's perfectly safe to have a cleaning when you are pregnant. In fact, many pregnant women get extra cleanings because of their pregnancy gingivitis. Yes, it will bleed a lot during the cleaning but nothing they haven't experienced before. And you will feel better afterwards. Good news is it goes away as soon as you have the baby!
