Termites

We had Terminix at our house today to check for termites b/c we have a woodpecker that has been going crazy pecking the front of our house. They said they found some evidence of termites in the garage and recommended we install the Sentricon system, which is a baiting system. Just wondering if anyone has experiences with this? Is this all a big scam or does it really work? We've never actually seen a termite. Thanks!

Re: Termites

I'd get another opinion.

We had the sentricon system installed a few years ago (Arrow did it) and the problem was resolved fairly quickly. They came out every month to check the traps and re-bait as necessary.

No advice, but we're going through something similar.

We've been in our house for 1 year, the previous owner had a contract with a pest service where they installed the bait system. Past history shows our house may have had carpenter ants. These freaking woodpeckers have been pecking at our garage the last 2 weeks so we have the pest people coming this weekend to check it out.

I bought the same system from Orkin when termite damage was found by the house inspector in a house I was selling. There was no active infestation, I just want red to reassure the buyers that teahouse was being protected. About 24 in-ground bait stations were installed around the outside of the house and the cost ran about $2000.

I had a free termite inspection by Orkin and the guy was great - he was totally honest with us that we didn't need any system since we didn't have any evidence of active termites or damage and anything we did would only be preventive. Give them a call for a second opinion.

I would get another opinion on whether the termites are active or it was something old.

As far as the Sentricon system, we had an active infestation and used Suburban Exterminating who installed Sentricon. The termites were gone within a month and we never had them come back. We kept it for about a year.
