measuring/ fundus/etc
i had to beg for the dr to get us an U/S next time @ 32 wk- apparently normal is @ 35wk (after 20)
the only reason we found out that he is probably on the bigger side yesterday is that i was having pain in my chest when i sat (being kicked in the ribs) and the Dr felt around. (@29wks)
i've never seen tape measure at the office- apparently they normally use one to measure the fundus which helps figure out the baby's size?
What did your Dr do?

Re: measuring/ fundus/etc
My doctor used the tape to measure. He also did a growth sono later on, but I wouldn't invest too much in it. They told me DS was going to be 9 lbs, he was just under 8 lbs at birth.

Re: measuring/ fundus/etc
They measured me for my DS but it was never accurate b/c I had fibroids and they said that could throw it off. Also had growth sonos (b/c of fibroids). They said I would have a 9 lb baby. DS was 7 lbs 14 oz. I wouldn't worry about any of this. You're almost there!

measuring/ fundus/etc
My dr measures the size of my uterus at evey appt. I forget when he started, maybe 29 weeks. I am measuring a week & a half ahead, according to his measurements. He has never estimated the weight of lo. I also had a few growth sonos because of something with my placenta. DD is also measuring a week and a half ahead according to U/S. The sonographer was the only person to give me her weight estimate.

Some of the doctors in my practice use the tape and others just feel. At my last appointment the doctor thought i was measuring about 2 weeks behind and pushed my growth sono up from 36 to 35 weeks to check on things. I ended up delivering a few hours before the sono but DD did end up being over a pound less than they would expect for the age she was so the doctor was definitely on target.

I'm 36 weeks. I have sonos everytime I go bc I am being monitored for growth restriction but baby is average size now. My belly has been measured with the tape measure maybe 3 times.

Re: measuring/ fundus/etc
my doctor never measured my belly. She just would check his hb on the doppler and review my symptoms. The one time she had an issue finding his hb, she hooked me up to the monitor (he was moving so much she couldn't get a good read on the doppler).
ETA: I'm not sure if she didn't do the measurements because I'm a large girl to begin with.

Re: measuring/ fundus/etc
My OB never "measures" my fundus she just feels around. She also doesn't do any growth sono (or any sono)after the 20 week U/S unless there is an indiction (ie slowed or little weight gain etc). She said both tend to be very imprecise/give people false worries.
