I don't wear lot of makeup and don't even know lot of basics but I recently learned that you can hide pores if you use a stippling brush to apply foundation.

Foundation and concealer are different.
You cant expect foundation to cover every blemish, that's what concealer is for.
I used to just layer foundation on my skin and it looked horrible.

both are recent...1. contouring
and 2. I learned very recently...red lipstick for under eye circles!!!!...I was a skeptic but by gum..this works!!!

Use concealer for under your eyes a shade lighter and use powder also a shade lighter for just under the eye area.
I was constantly using the same color as the rest of my face and wondering why I couldn't get my under eyes to look better then I saw that and bam I look well rested LOL
Also you tube for tutorials!

Using a lash primer before the mascara.
The difference in my lashes is unreal - people ask if they are fake because with the primer, they are so long and beautiful. It's SO not me -it is all the primer.
Lightly filling in my eyebrows, which are light in color, with a good eyebrow pencil - just to make them pop a little. It's very subtle, but it makes a difference.
Using MAC's "Luna" - which is a shiny highlight that goes under the eye brow and in the corner of my eyes -- gives that shine and highlight. Makes a big difference.
Using a powder press foundation -- it's not a powder 100% and it's not a liquid - it's in between and it makes a big difference.
Using the right brushes -- really good brushes make the application and look so much better.
Under-eye concealer is something that is imperative to me because I'm fair and my eyes can sometimes look like they have dark circles under them because I'm so pale.

Highlighting & Contouring - total game changer
Putting my mascara in my bra before I start my make-up routine. This way it's nice and warm when I go to apply it. Also, adding a drop of saline or visene when it starts to go on clumpy.
My all time favorite, getting my eyebrows done by a professional, not the 19 year old girl at the nail salon. Holy shit it's like getting a face lift and completely changes the shape of your face for the better.

also heating the eye lash curler before using
how to apply the concealer under eyes and brighten them
Use the brush the way it's shaped. If it's round then apply in circles and flat then apply back and forth (with good brushes of course)
Using paper or something flat right under the eye when applying eye shadow to get that straight line at the end

The eyelash primer does really make a difference. I didn't buy it last time I shopped for makeup because I literally bought the whole store. So I have been using baby powder on a Q-Tip and brushing it on lashes before mascara. Totally does the trick. Though my next trip, I will buy the primer. Just an easier step lol
