Chicken Pot Pie Casserole

I'm making chicken pot pie tonight in a 9x13 baking dish. The recipe calls for biscuits from scratch but I don't have the skills or energy for that. I'm going to be topping it with Pillsbury Grands Biscuits. I plan on baking the biscuits first and then topping them on the casserole.

The recipe requires 15 mins of baking then topping with the homemade biscuits and baking for an additional 10-12 mins. Any idea how long to bake the dish itself without any biscuits on top? Anyone do it this way? I read through the recipe comments and nothing helpful.

Thanks!

I would bake at least 15 min and check, if not hot enough cook a bit longer. You can cook without biscuits.

Chicken Pot Pie Casserole

You can put the biscuit dough on top and cook all together it comes out fine no need to bake separately

I googled some recipes and this is what I ended up doing. I think I needed to cook for a bit longer. DH said the biscuits were still kind of doughy. Also, it came out pretty liquidy. Maybe more flour in the roux?

I make this in the crock pot, and I just put the raw dough right on top and they cook right up! I would cook them longer next time, and definitely add flour if it's too soupy!

I usually cook pot pie for 30-40 minutes I follow the Ina garden recipe. You can roll out the biscuits a little maybe they were too thick - or you can cover with foil if they get too brown and you want to cook longer. Yes if too much liquid maybe more flour or less chicken stock or whatever you added....if it seems too much liquid when you put it in the casserole dish I would take some out then.

Re: Chicken Pot Pie Casserole

I make the most amazing chicken pot pie but I don't use biscuits. I line a pie plate with pillsbury pie crust, bake it for af few miinutes, put the filling in, then cover with another pie crust. It comes out amazing. As for thickening the filling, I add a little bit of cornstarch and throw in a half chicken bouillon as well for extra flavor. so good!
