Any advise? House we bought has propane and looking to change it to either gas or heat pump. DH would install either.

Gas or heat pump to heat pool
We did a LOT of research on this last year because our heater went bad. Propane IS gas. So what your asking is if you should go to heat pump or fix the propane heater.
I cant remember all the details but we would have done propane if we could. The cost was not in our budget. I WISH I remember the deets on the heat pump. I remember that we were told its the way a lot of people are going right now...But we would have done propane if the cost was not so much (we would have to change the electricity, buy tanks etc etc)

Re: Gas or heat pump to heat pool
Meant to say we had a a propane tank that cost a fortune to fill. DH is planning on running a gas line to the house which means a permit and trenching the backyard to the pool equipment. Propane tank was broken. We used it one weekend when we moved in and cost $400 to fill.

Re: Gas or heat pump to heat pool
I'm not sure if our Dh's spoke, but here is my opinion...if you do not get full on the pool most of the day, which I don't think you do, go with gas. It is faster to heat up. If you put it on around 7 or 8 am, the kids can go in by noon. If you get a lot of sun in the yard then go with a heat pump. If you want to put it on to heat up you need to do it at least the day before use, if it is a big temperature jump you are trying to do, then on Thursday.
Our Pembroke house had a heat pump. This house has a gas. It is a lot cheaper to run the gas than the electric.
