Wwyd - using a friend as a landscaper/mason
DH and I are looking to install a new patio. DH has a friend who owns a landscaping/masonry company - they've been in business for ~15 years. We're thinking about asking him for a quote. I am slightly leery about using him only because my parents once did business with a neighbor and got burned. What are your thoughts about entering business relationships with friends?

In reality, anything can happen. It can go real well....or not. Nothing wrong with getting a quote. If he's not much less or more than your other quotes; Id probably go with the stranger. Lol

I think it depends on the contractor.
We have used 2 friends numerous times and never had any issues. One is a contractor (who is amazing if you are in NJ and need someone) and one is a mason. When we were leveling our yard and installing our pool, we needed a retaining wall. He quoted us double of other guys just because he didn't have the crew and there was no hard feelings.
I would also make sure you like his work.
