Maxi dress
I really want to wear one for a communion this Sunday! I went to the mall and tried on a bunch but I feel huge in them!! Am I the only one that feels like way?? They make every part of my body look bigger, especially hips!
Any tips/tricks?

Re: Maxi dress
Nope. I hate the way I look and feel in them. Especially around the hip/ass area.

Every turn of the warmer weather I feel gross and big. You are by no means big. Maxis are cute if anything they make you look slimmer, go for it!!

Re: Maxi dress
I agree. I won't wear maxis. They add bulk where there isn't bulk for some reason.
Plus they cover my best assets, my legs, so they are a no go for me.
I never wear them

Re: Maxi dress
I often feel the same way about maxi's but I wound up buying this one for an afternoon beach wedding this weekend and I love the way it looks on. I thought the pleats would be a definite "no way" but I think because the material is so light and flowy it works:

This. I am small and they make me look big. I go for sundresses or short maxis that are more fitted. I can't wear long ones.

Same here. I need to market the legs!
So, the alternative for me is a jumpsuit.
It is stylish like a maxi but if you have nice legs it still shows them, shape-wise. I like a strapless jumpsuit myself! I have one, strapless and nice/form fitting on top and throughout the waist and then the legs are a little flowy - but not too much. With heels or a wedge, LOVE!

Maxi dress
For me , it totally depends. In the last couple of years I have found a few that are flattering, but that's after trying on I don't know how many! I'm a short girl too, 5'3. So my advice is to just keep trying different ones. A few years ago I got a great one from NY &CO., had to hem it, but it is super flattering. I wish I had bought more!

The cobalt blue is nice in that jumpsuit too. Not exactly a light color, but not black.

I was looking at this online...does it go to ankles or long? I was reading the reviews and a couple people said it runs short?

Re: Maxi dress
I think it's just the material and cut. Most times I find the cheaper jersey material maxi dresses look the best on me. I also have a few wrap maxi dresses that are just gorgeous. I had to have them hemmed though.

Me too, and I'm short. I look like a fat child playing dress up, with the bottom pooled around my ankles.
My only tip is not to wear one!
What about the blue dress you posted earlier?

Re: Maxi dress
I feel the opposite, I am petite (5' 2") and maxis gives the illusion that I am taller. I only have soft jersey maxis so they cling to the body a little and aren't bulky or bunch. I can see how a chiffon material would not be as flattering.
