I can't believe this could be happening again -update in post. Phew!

I am about 7 weeks pregnant. I have my first drs appointment on Tuesday for a sono. My pregnancy symptoms have been pretty limited- sore boobs, fatigue, discharge and occasional bouts of indigestion. I've been worried about no morning sickness but figured maybe I was just lucky. Because I've been worried about my symptoms I took a hpt wondfo this morning and it seems to be actually lighter than it was about two weeks ago. The line is there but it's not even close to the level of the control line which I'm entirely sure it would or should be at this stage. I had a mmc in December. I'm starting to think in going to have another. I am so upset right now. At least if I bled I would know if had a miscarriage but a mmc is not fair. I'm so scared and upset. I guess I will know for sure Tuesday night but this can not be a good thing. I really am distraught. Chat Icon

Eta: I've also noticed my boobs are less sore over the last few days but thought symptoms come and go so I wasn't going to worry. I truly am so sad right now.

UPDATE; thanks so much for all the support. Had my sono today and I'm measuring right on track, strong heartbeat. Phew! I feel so much better. I'm also past where I was in my first pregnancy (where I had the miscarriage) so now I can breathe a little bit easier. You never know what can happen but all looks good. ;)

Can you request a beta to see if your levels went down? Symptoms come and go so I wouldn't worry about those too much. My prayers are with you and I hope the next few days go quickly for you!

Symptoms do come and go. just ask for an early sono. No reason to sit and wonder and worry and drive yourself crazy. I didn't have ms with any of my pregnancies. Having symptoms doesn't mean you won't or haven't had a miscarriage.

I get the symptoms come and go but my concern is that at 7 weeks my wondfo should be as dark as the control line I would think. And, while the line is there it's not crazy dark and I think lighter than it previously was. It should be very dark by now I would think. That is most concerning to me.

I'm going to see about getting an appt earlier. I have tons to do at work but my current appt is Tuesday in the evening and I think I seriously may go insane if I have to wait until then. Even moving it to Monday or Tuesday morn would be good. But I am not sure they always have a sono tech available.

Wondfos are only capable of testing up to a certain beta #. Just call the dr and ask for a blood draw or a sono

I had the same thing with my second pregnancy snd I'm watching my week old baby sleeping right now. I googled it at the time s d there is something called the hook effect. When your hcg levels get much higher, the wondfo actually gets lighter.

Try to relax. You can't go by the darkness of the lines. Call your dr and get two betas two days apart or wait it out until your first scan.

Thanks for this. I'm still panicking but it gives me a glimmer of hope.

I never took those tests once I had a confirmed pregnancy because I always assumed it would give me unnecessary stress. I've had 6 miscarriages over the course of my time TTC for both #1 & #2, so I do understand your fear and frustration. If it were me, I'd ask to get in for a sono. My first one was at 6wks so if you're almost 7wks you should be able to get in by now (esp if you've had a loss in the past). Either that or betas. Good luck. I hope all ends up good and this IS your keeper!

Did you have early betas? Symptoms definitely come and go my breasts were normal half way through my second trimester then BAM! Don't worry about not having morning sickness; this pregnancy was the first time I've experienced it (I have a few DC).

To ease your nerves I would call for a sonogram but don't go by HPT color at this stage at a certain point your numbers level off that is why doctors go by Sono around 6/7 weeks.

Good luck

Thanks all. Moved my sono from Tuesday evening to Monday morning. It's only a day difference but I need to know all is ok. Thanks for the support.

I'm sorry you are in limbo again. I have had 3 losses myself and know that misery well. With my first pregnancy I POAS constantly and my line was much lighter at 9w. I freaked out and read about the hook effect. One way to test for it is to take your pee and test, and then dilute the same pee with water and test again. If the diluted pee is darker you know you are dealing with the hook effect (where, once HCG levels pass a certain point they bind to eachother and the line comes back light). I hope everything is OK Chat Icon

I am so sorry for your losses. I've been researching the hook effect since the pp mentioned it....I'm going to see tomorrow morning and dilute my urine. Some say the hook effect is rare, but based on postings on other boards, it does seem to happen, especially around the 7-9 week mark so maybe its not so rare??. My fingers and toes are triple crossed. I should not have opened up this can of worms to begin with by poas this late in the game and just waited for my sono, but having had a mmc, its just so hard, as you know, not to be overly anxious.

Continuing to test is just going to make you go crazy and get more stressed and that's not good for the baby or you. Toss the tests or have someone take them away and hide them from you. Keep yourself busy. Go see a movie or read a book or two. There's nothing you can do between now and your appointment anyway.

It seems likely to be the hook effect. Phew!! I tested normally and then diluted my urine. Diluted urine is darker test - darker than non diluted. Means at least that my hormones likely aren't decreasing. Makes me feel better. I can have some hope for Monday. Yeah!
And now I will step away from the home pregnancy tests ;). Thanks to the poster who told me about the effect - I can feel a bit better now. Seriously- no more testing.
