Irregular hb with home doppler?
I have a home doppler that I use sparingly. I didn't feel as many of the usual flutters today so I used the doppler. I picked up the hb, but it sounded like the heart was skipping beats. I could tell the baby was moving all over and the skipping wasn't consistent. I've always gotten nice regular beats in the past. Anyone ever have this happen?

I think this is a reason why home dopplers are not recommended. If you're concerned, I'd call your dr just in case.

Your baby wasn't moving, so you used the Doppler... But couldn't get a good signal because your baby was moving too much?
Problem solved!
Put the Doppler away!!!

I just had a nonstress test (at 35w) that measured my baby's heart rate. I was hooked up to the machine for 10 minutes, and in those 10 minutes, the heart rate went from the low 130s (baby was sleeping) to the mid-150's (baby was rolling around) to the upper 170's (after a couple of good kicks), up and down, up and down. The OB came in and said that was perfect. Exactly what they were looking for. So a normal baby's hr will vary a LOT in a short period of time.

As reassuring as the doppler can be at times...it's also a total buzzkill if it doesnt work properly, which it almost never does. As long as I can find a heartbeat, I shut it off and go about my day. I don't analyze what I'm hearing bc I'm no doctor and I would go crazy.

Thank you, this is what I needed to hear! DH threatened to throw the doppler away. I've been good and haven't used it since.
I fully admit to being a nut, I really do!
