School placement.

My son was placed in a different school in our district then our home school. He is in special ed and this will be his last year. Being mainstreamed this year.. He is in 1st grade now. I have been talking to a lot of people about his placement as I don't want to uproot him and they have been telling me that since he is established in this school that he should be able to stay. One person told me that when she had a similar situation with her child (but they ended up moving and didn't need to). I have to contact the superintendent and the board of ed. Has anyone done this and been successful.. I have had a tough battle this last year with keeping him where he is and now to have to pull him out and make him start over will blow his mind. He is very sensitive and emotional. Has high functioning asd, ADHD, and SPD. School declassified him. He also lost his dad last year.. I can't afford to move out of where I am so moving to that school area is out for now...

School placement.

I almost had this with my DD last year when I was looking for a house. We were buying in the same district (we were renting) but I did not want her to change schools no matter where in the district we bought a house. She has a multitude of issues and was in special ed, mainstreamed this year. I spoke to the superintendent and she gave me permission to stay in the same school. Luckily we bought a house that went to the school I wanted, but it was nice to have the back up if needed. With your circumstances, I really don't see them not granting your request. The only issue would be with busing and I would have had to drive her if I moved outside of that school's zone.

This is what I am hoping for.... I drive him now so it isn't so bad. We live a little over a mile from the school... Thank you for a positive outlook..

School placement.

a friend in my district had a chld in special ed, was being mainstreamed and is zoned for a different school. district offered the option of home school with bussing or other school without. never had any trouble if she wanted to keep her child at the other school.

Re: School placement.

I am a special ed. Teacher and many of my students were not zoned for my school, but lived elsewhere in the district. They were always bussed and for the few that then needed to move to a less restrictive environment were allowed to stay because they were already established in the school. Basically, it seems like my district initially places kids where the program is based (this is for our self contained classes or autism program, all our buildings have inclusion and resource room so those kids attend their home school). On a few occasions, kids have to move when they really need a more restrictive environment, but that is usually apparent by 1st grade at the latest.

Depends on the district, but our last one absolutely would not let the kids go to a school that wasn't their home school.

Re: School placement.

My dd is in Kindergarten and in an co-lab class because she was diagnosed with dev. cord. disorder. We fought to get her into a co-lab class because I felt that she could benefit from having a second teacher. She is thriving and I doubt next year she won't qualify to be in a co-lab class. I sort of regret putting her in one because now she loves her school but she won't be able to stay there. My sd will not allow her to stay in her current school and even if they did there is no way they would let me younger dd go there. Dh and I have considering buying a home in the area that would allow her to stay in that school but now my district is closing schools for the following year. Now we don't know where any of the kids are going to end up. I'm hoping if they redistrict everyone she won't feel as bad moving back to our home school or a new school if our home school becomes one of the closed schools.
