Which OTC allergy meds do you give your child?

DS is 8 and has seasonal allergies, luckily not too bad though. Some days it bothers him more than others and my dr. had told us to try Children's Zyrtec. Didn't seem to do much. Which would you recommend?

Zyrtec didn't work well for my Dd either. Singulair bothered her stomach, we now use Allegra. The pediatrician said I could also use nasicort with the Allegra but she has not been that bad.

We did Zyrtec for last year & noticed it made my son crazy. We are now on Allegra & it works wonders

DD is 10. She takes Claritin with a Rx nasal spray. Have to use it daily from day one of symptoms. She needs it all of May usually.

We just switched from Claritin to Allegra and the switch has helped.

same.
We have also done Zyrtec since my Dr. recommended it but my DC hated it and can't do pills yet. Also disliked Claritin. Loves Allegra and its been working wonderfully.

Per doc.. we rotate every 6 months
They build up tolerances

Currently we are switching from Zyrtec to Claritin D again
We supplement night doses with Benedryl

been using allergy meds since she was like 2? She'll be 8 in August
We rotate to Allegra but it seems to do nothing for her

every kid is different. That said, the doc also said go back and try it again.. as they get older they change chemically too so what didn't work now may work later. So we'll be going back to Allegra at her next 6m turn.

But I don't do the full day of one dose. We choose to only give a 12dose. Give her a break as she's not always bad. Some days she's even allergy free. Can't know if im always drugging her, can I? But if at night she's sniffly we give her benedryl. If she is allergy free for days and gets a flare up, we keep chewable benedryl as well. It's the immediately short term cure.
