Birthday Parties

My son's 9th birthday is next week. I told him enough with the big expensive parties (he is the type of kid that is friends with everyone so it gets out of control). I want to do something small at my house with a few friends but the list is once again getting out of control because there is always someone I'm afraid will feel "left out" (so maybe the problem is really me not him Chat Icon)

How do you celebrate bigger kid birthdays? Part of me just wants to ask 2 friends to come out to dinner with us and be done.

I am not yet in that situation since I still do the "big expensive" parties where we invite the whole class plus other friends BUT when DD gets to be 9 I will invite a couple of her friends and either get their nails done or go see a movie and then pizza for dinner and call it a night.

Re: Birthday Parties

for my oldest's last birthday we didn't do a formal party. We had about 7 girls over after school, did a craft and had ice cream and pizza

My DS turned 9 in April. I took 5 kids to Fly High and then the diner afterwards and they all had a ton of fun.

Birthday Parties

We generally don't have parties. We go away together as a family. We've gone to Disney twice, Great Wolf Lodge twice, and Kalahari. We were planning on returning to GWL this year, but DD's b-day weekend is completely sold out in the Poconos. We might try Camelback, or head to GWL in Boston.

Birthday Parties

DD is turning 10 on Tuesday and I this year I finally told her that no more parties at a party place. Too expensive. I was hoping for about 5 girls but I have 18!! DD is one of those girls that is friends with everyone and doesn't have a few true best friends so she said there was no way to make it less. Lovely lol.

I am doing it at home, getting pizza for dinner, having them decorate pumpkins with an emoji theme (that's her party theme), set up a karaoke machine, made a selfie station and then we'll have cake. Honestly when it's all said and done, I didn't save much money and now I have to do all the work myself.

If I had a boy, they have those gamer buses that look really cool and come to your house. Serve pizza and cake and let them play video games.

Re: Birthday Parties

When DS turned 10, that was his last big party. It was flag football in a park, so at least I didn't need to rent a place.

This year, we are having a sleep over with 3 other boys. They'll get here Friday night and maybe watch a movie and have pizza. Then on Saturday we have some passes to go bowling that we will use with them.

We took my daughter for her 9th and 4-5 of her friends to Adventureland for the day. We bought them lunch and dessert. They had a blast. I know others have taken a small group to splash splash, hotel with an indoor pool, or other day event. The year before we took 4-5 girls to a movie, followed by lunch and ice cream.
