Gestational Diabetes
I'm curious what everyone's numbers are supposed to be. My doc wants the 1 hour after meal to be 130 or less. I've had several numbers around 140-145, but I'm really hoping that I can get by without medication.

My doctor likes my post meal #'s <130 for 1 hr after meal, and my fasting AM #'s <90. I would play with what you're eating before going on medication. For me my problem has been the AM #'s more, than my post meal #'s and I find if I eat an ounce of Almonds at night before bedtime it significantly improves my AM #'s. I find high protein is typically the way to go, but I would definitely talk to your doctor or a nutritionist if you haven't already. How often are they monitoring your #'s?

Re: Gestational Diabetes
Are you logging your food? If so, are you noticing a pattern in what you're eating when your numbers are high? Definitely experiment with more protein and fewer carbs. If you aren't doing so already, take a 15 minute walk after a meal. Those things can help keep your numbers more in check.

Re: Gestational Diabetes
Yes, as PP said my GD goals were <95 fasting, <130 after 1 hour, <110 after 2 hours. Those were the numbers the dietician and diabetes nurse wanted to see. If I had more than 2-3 high readings in a week they would have asked me to come in. Never had more than 2 high readings and when they were high I could always link it back to what I ate.
Somethings that really helped me were to make sure breads were whole wheat. Tried to eat cheese/ meat at lunch every day as meats and cheese have no carbs. make sure carbs didn't exceed my personal carb total. If I was on the high end of my range for lunch, I'd stick closer to the min range for dinner.

Re: Gestational Diabetes
I'm testing 4x/day. My fasting sugars are always below 90. The highest readings are always after breakfast, so I'll up the protein there. It's a little hard because I'm a vegetarian so my protein choices are limited. I met with the dietitian for the first time last week, and she gave me some ideas.
I have definitely noticed better levels when I walk after a meal so I'll continue doing that as well.
Thanks for the suggestions!
