Best Picture Oscars Flub

Are you kidding me?!?! Was this for real??? Hard to believe that for the biggest award of the night, at the very end of the show, they'd make a mistake like that and give the presenters the wrong card. Shouldn't warren Beatty have put 2 and 2 together and said something right then since he saw Emma stones name??? I tend to be skeptical (I still think the Steve Harvey miss universe flubwas staged) but at the Oscars?!?!

I cant even imagine how the cast of La La Land felt!
I feel terrible for everyone. The cast of La.La Land for obvious reasons amd the cast Moonlight was robbed of the true experience of winning.
I definitely didn't think this was staged. It was just a major f@ck up. I always thought the winners kept the card with their names on it.
What a screw up back stage.
You can see when Warren opened the envelope something wasnt right. He did come back out and explain thats why he was hesitant to read the name.

What a mess!

But I am so happy Moonlight won! I wanted either them or Hidden Figures to win.

Wow that was such a big mistake. People are going to be fired for sure and that producer of LaLa Land was PISSED (of course understandable). I am really confused about what happened because Warren came out and said it was the wrong envelope but then why did the producer have the real one? Major F up. They really need to pair older actors with younger so they can help out if needed.

What happened was they gave him the envelope for when Emma Stone won best actress for La La Land.
He knew something was up that was why he paused etc - but he read it anyway.
I don't think it was his fault (Though he probably should have asked someone before reading it)
Someone gave him the wrong envelope
You would think they would triple check before giving the envelope to the presenters.

i read this morning that there are 2 sets of envelopes. Emma still had her original (that was opened) and some how the copy was sent out. So it's not like Warren opened an already opened envelope.

The person with the responsibility of keeping track of the envelopes will probably never work in the industry again.

I heard the same, but also heard that each set of envelopes is kept on opposite sides of the stage - I guess to (try to) avoid what happened - so not sure how the mix up occurred. I almost feel like someone had to do it on purpose for that to happen.

I feel bad for Warren Beatty because when I was watching, I was like, "why is he being so weird - it's late, just read it already." He obviously knew something wasn't right, but I guess in the moment, couldn't think quickly enough to figure out how to deal with it. He showed the envelope to Faye Dunaway - I think to see if she would "know" what to do and then she just blurted out the "winner." What a mess. I feel bad that everyone from Moonlight sort of had their moment stolen

That was crazy I don't really feel they had their moment stolen. They still went onstage and gave their speeches and if anything people will always remember this win. You forgot what movies have one in the past. Now everyone will really remember moonlight

I can't even tell you what they said during the speech.
The focus was definitely more on the flub than the real winner.
I also think hearing your name announced during real time and not during everyone trying to clear up the mistake and so much confusion absolutely takes away for true moment.

I'm just glad they won!

You're right it's hard to remember who won year and year. Although I did remember last years winner because it was pretty unexpected. But I really wanted Spotlight to win and was so happy when they did.
Kind of like Moonlight.

What a mess! I feel bad for everyone involved. Someone is definitely getting fired!

On another Oscars Flub note..did anyone hear that they used the wrong picture for costume designer, Janet Patterson, in the In Memoriam segment? The woman pictured is still alive!

Re: Best Picture Oscars Flub

So it appears that the man from PWC was tweeting a photo of Emma Stone backstage post Oscar win when he should have been paying attention to the card that he handed to Warren. So when the female PWC realized the mistake she sent out the stage hand who was freaking out behind the people who were speaking. I feel so badly for everyone involved. I do think PWC will loose their arrangement to be the official accountant for the Oscars. This guy had one job. Instead he was star struck and not paying attention.
