GD/insulin
My endocrinologist emailed me to tell me he thinks I should come in and discuss possible basal insulin based on my fasting numbers. I'm super bummed.

Re: GD/insulin
How long have you been monitoring your blood sugar? Have you tried altering your evening snack to see how it affects your fasting number? How much above the limit are your fasting results and how often are they above?
My biggest issue last time was my fasting numbers, but I was able to control it most of the time with certain nighttime snacks. One of the people monitoring me mentioned insulin at one point, but I wanted to avoid that if possible. My OB supported me and I was able to avoid it. DS2 was born healthy and at a normal weight (under 8 lbs). Obviously, if you need to take it do so, but maybe see if there are other things you could try for the next week to see if there's any change in your fasting numbers. Also, could you take the medication (I think it's called glyburide) instead of insulin? I know the place monitoring me didn't offer the medication as an option because they felt it was too new, but that was 5 years ago. I'm sure things have changed since then. Good luck!

My endocrinologist said no to the pills because of some negative indications with birth defects or prenatal issues.
I've been monitoring it since 3/29. The endo was looking at my fasting numbers for the last week and said he wants to discuss it because they were over 95 four times (97, 105, 96, 96). But they still averaged under 95 for the week. The 105 was the morning after a day where all of my post-meal numbers were completely out of whack with no real reason why based off what I ate.
As for the snack, not really. The nutritionist had actually told me ice cream was good to have, because there is protein and fat mixed with the carbs, so if I have a snack that's what I often have. But there doesn't seem to be any connection between the snack and my fasting number.

Re: GD/insulin
For me, the nighttime snack helped keep my fasting numbers in check, but it depended on what it was. I occasionally had Greek yogurt popsicles, but the best snack was something like cheese/cheese sticks plus a low carb wrap with sun butter or peanut butter. Considering they were barely over, maybe you can experiment more with meals or maybe a nighttime walk just to see if it helps. There may be no correlation, but talk to the doctor and see if there's any way to try to keep your fasting numbers down without resorting to insulin.

My number in the morning definitely correlated with the day before as you mentioned. Ice cream wasn't a good snack for me. I had cheese and almonds for a night time snack. I also took a walk or used my eliptical machine each night. It might take some expirimenting to see what helps.

My fasting numbers were above where my OB wanted them. He wanted them below 80, and I was in the low to mid-90s most days. He put me on glyburide at night. I definitely felt like a failure, even though I know the fasting numbers are the hardest to control.
So far, my fasting numbers are down into the mid-70s with no issues. I'm hoping they stay there so I'm just on the low dose for the next 5 weeks.
In the past, there did seem to be a certain amount unknown about the oral medications, but I think recent studies have shown them to be fine.

Argggggh!!! After waiting for 2 days to hear back from the drs office about when he can fit me in (because when I called I was told that his next available appt wasn't until May 30, and I am due June 19!), I got a call from a nurse saying he told her just to schedule me to come meet with a nurse to be shown how to use the insulin pen - not to meet with him at all! I told her that I was hoping to be able to meet with him, since I wanted to talk to him about if there was any alternatives I could try first, and get some more info. So now I have to wait again, and meanwhile time is passing during which bad things could be happening!
