car seat/booster seat?
How old was your child when he/ she started using a booster only- meaning no 5 point harness? My 2 DC are 8 and 6 and both are still in high back boosters with 5 point harness. These seats turn into boosters jsut using the seat belt in the car but my DCs are both still under the weight limit for the 5 point harness (65 lbs) I;m just asking bc I recently driove home 2 DCs from my DDs class (both 8 yrs old) and their moms looked at me like I had 5 heads when I asked if they were in boosters or anything. They both just sat in teh car and used my seatbelt. My DCs are both on the skinny side

Re: car seat/booster seat?
DD was 7 when we took her out of the harness into a high back booster. She weighed about 50 lbs.
Having them in NOTHING like those moms is so dangerous. Unless they are unusually large 8 year olds, the seatbelt will not hit them in the proper location and can cause severe injury in crash. Severe. Almost as bad as not wearing a seat belt at all.

car seat/booster seat?
my DS is 7 and he's in the high back booster still, with the car seat belt. he technically meets the weight limit for the five point harness still, BUT he likes using the seat belt better. and we're happy with him still in a high back booster either way. from what i know, most of his friends are in high back boosters still, too. it bugs me SO much when parents move the kids out too soon-- i think at 8, they should still at least be in a backless booster to position the seat belt correctly for them! We have 2 MiFold boosters that are good for carpooling type situations, or traveling...

Re: car seat/booster seat?
Thank you! My DD gets so upset bc almost all of her friends just sit in the car with nothing and she says she looks like a baby. I try to tell her it is for her safety and about 6 months ago I was rear ended with both kids in the car. The car that hit me was totaled and we were all fine bc they were in car seats.
I knew I couldn't be the only mom out there that still uses a booster etc. I even had a backless booster in the car and told the mom I would put her daughter in it and she said I didn't have to. I had the girl sit in it anyway.

Re: car seat/booster seat?
It amazes me the ignorance and gross negligence of stupid people. They should be forced to read that article I posted. And frankly, it should be against the law.
Oh and I would tell those moms that no kid is riding in MY car without a proper booster seat. If she doesn't like it, she can find another ride for her kid

Re: car seat/booster seat?
My son used the back of the HBB until he outgrew it by height and weight on his ninth birthday. DD is eight and still uses the back of the HBB. She asked to get out of the car seat, but she is 60 lbs and 4 foot 3. So she has a long time to still be in the HBB. I tell my kids I am their mom, not other kids moms so I decide what is right for them when it comes to safety. My DDs feet do not touch the ground when in the regular seat because she asked me to check, she has about four inches to go until her feet will touch the ground.

Both my 6 and 8 year olds are in a high backed booster. They are small for their ages. I can't see not using one anytime soon.

Re: car seat/booster seat?
My 8 year old son is still in a high back booster with the 5 point harness. He's about 60lbs. He hates it but I don't care. We live OOS in a state where car seat laws are laughable so there are not too many kids his age in seats. I have agreed to move to using the seatbelt (with the high back booster) since his ped said it was ok. My DH conveniently keeps forgetting to change it though.

This exactly for both my boys. Same age and in the high back booster.
They do have some big friends (my 8 yr old DS) that is not in a booster at all.

car seat/booster seat?
DS 1 we moved to a high back booster when he was starting 1st grade and DS 2 we moved when he was starting K.
They were approaching the weight limits to be in the seats as a 5 pt harness with LATCH so I thought it was a good time to move them. Also - they liked to strap themselves in so the 5 pt harness was often askew or loose.
My 8 year old is now in a backless booster. Most of his friends no longer use boosters and many even ride in the front seat.

Ride in the front seat!!! I can't believe that people still let kids ride in the front seat. I recently saw a 5 year old riding in a front seat and leaning out the window (no seatbelt).

People need to start getting pulled over for shit like that. Then they would bitchh about getting a ticket. How fuking stupid and irresponsible are you? Reckless. The same people who won't take a sip of wine or a bite of cold cuts when pregnant, gamble with their kids' lives once they are out of the womb.

Re: car seat/booster seat?
My DS is 6. I had him in the high back booster with 5 point harness until about a month ago when I had to switch my infant from the carrier to a car seat. His booster didn't fit anymore because I also have another son in a car seat. Now he's in the backless booster that is used with the seat belt. He's like 46" and weighs about 50 lbs or so
