Trip with toddler

I know this has been asked a million times but I need ideas on where to go. This is what I’m looking for:

-Driveable
-No water parks
-Can be, but does not have to be beachy
-Things for DD to do (2.5)
-Somewhat upscale but still family friendly

We would likely go near the end of September because I hate crowds and extreme heat.

Go to Diamond Beach NJ and stay at the Icona. Look it up.
Upscale for sure. Especially compared to hotels in the area.
They have a gorgeous private beach. You need beach tags to use it, so no riff raff.
Beach and pool side service. Will serve you booze right up to the water if you want.
Fire pits at night.
All rooms are suites with kitchens so you can bring stuff and put it in the fridge (wine!!)

The boardwalk is not far. Cute kiddie rides there.

The cape may zoo is close too and it's such a great zoo and it's free. Has little rides and a playground too.

We LOVE going there.
Oh and end of Sept you will get a MUCH better rate at that hotel. Because it's pricey in season.

Icona sounds good.

I like DC, Cape Cod, Boston and Philadelphia. Loads to do and a blast in September. Pick something YOU like and stay at a nice hotel. Kid will come along and experience... aquariums, historic boats, whale watching, national mall, money printing museum, please touch... so much for them to see!

Honestly, even Disney gets quiet in September. It’s a good time to travel.

OMG! I just looked at the prices... $500 in the summer and $200 in September. It looks gorgeous though!

We book super early and get it cheaper than that. We haven't ever paid $500 a night. The later in the season you book, the higher the prices are.
But honestly $200 a night in Sept is a great price. And Sept is still so nice out. And less crowds.

I believe so. Look into Morey's Pier to see when they are open until. (that's the boardwalk attraction area)
I think they start having reduced hours in the fall but not sure when.
The Cape May zoo should definitely be open in the fall too.
And it should still be warm enough for the beach and the pool there is heated
