easter 2019 where to go (driving distance)

both sets of parents are not around for easter this year so it's just us. flights are ridiculous at that time and we want to avoid an airport, but we are toying with the idea of a mini vacation around that time to celebrate easter. Any ideas? Would like to go somewhere that is toddler friendly with things for DD to do

ETA: we were originally thinking maybe Annapolis or Ocean City, MD.. if anyone's been lmk. I've been to Annapolis with a friend who lives down there, but this was before I had DD so I don't recall if there was much to do for kids

Washington DC, Newport/Mystic and Montreal.

Last year we ended up doing a mini ski vacation for a great price!

Agree that flights are far too $$$. For the cost, I would consider going to Europe (cost is similar to a Carribean trip).

We're going to Kalahari Thur-Sat of Easter Weekend. We went last year and it was great. They do activities on Easter and have lots of special dining options for that day.

you think it's just as good for a 2.5 year old? Only worry is that it's probably better for older kids

No they have a whole area for the little kids. Even a mini lazy river for them!
In fact with the second phase they have 2 toddler areas now.

What second phase? Is this recently new? We were just there at the end of March.

I think it was there in March. The part with the wave pool- they never had the wave pool when it first opened. A bunch of new slides.
And there is an area with more of the toddler sized slides- not as big as the original toddler area, but a few more slides. Near the grotto bar. In fact I think the grotto bar was part of that new phase.

Ahhh - ok. That was there when we went in March. I really loved this place. It was our first time going and we have a planned trip with 2 other families this Easter weekend. I just wish the Cabanas weren't so expensive. I priced it out for when we will be there and it was almost as much per family as the hotel/water park!

Yeah their prices are a bit insane to be honest.
And the cabanas, while super convienet, are not worth the price AT ALL. You don't get much for that money other than a private area to keep your stuff.
Did you see the ones with private hot tubs in them? I can't imagine what those cost!

Yes - those are stupid expensive.

I thought since we have a total of 12 people going a cabana would be a great meeting spot and stuff stashing spot. But not for the price they are charging! So we are just going to go down to the water park early each day and stake claim to an area by the toddler section because it wasn't crowded when we were there in March.

So I never knew this until we were there last weekend but there is a mezzanine level that is ALWAYS empty. I went up there to wait for my group to get off of a ride that I wasn't riding (the Anaconda- the red and black one you see up on near the ceiling over the toddler area). The ride ends on that level. I went up there to wait for them to come off and there were dozens of open table and chairs and this was mid day on a very crowded weekend.
It's not ideal because there is nothing up there, but if you want a place to stash your stuff and and easy place to meet, it's not bad. The stairs to it are near the bathroom area... signs point to the mezzanine level.
