Background check - work related
So I am filling out background check info for a job offer I received and one of the questions its asking is if I authorize them to contact my current employer. If not then I need to provide a reason.
How would you answer that?

I answered no.
I didn’t have to give a reason but I would say that my current employer doesn’t know that I am looking for another job.

Re: Background check - work related
Do you have any references from your current job - like a colleague or former boss or something?
I would answer no if it’s a third party screening company. If you haven’t already mentioned it to the hiring leader, you could reach out to him/her and offer to show a paystub or offer a reference of a colleague or whatever. This will show you can prove you work there but haven’t told your current boss, which is very common.

Background check - work related
I only filled out a back round check apps once I was offered the job except for Civil job, its amazing how the state is allowed to ask illegal questions prior, birth date etc.
I agree with Ali, just say they dont know you are interviewing or looking. Good Luck

Well the thing is, I was already offered the job and received the offer letter. This is one of the questions on the forms I have to sign for the background check. I would think at this point I should just say yes?
I plan to give notice on Monday.
Thanks

if you already accepted the job and its a done deal and ready to give notice, then yes. I would think you should give permission.
They would have called references prior to offering you the job. The last time I had a back round check I called and requested a copy. I was curious to see what they are looking for and the info provided. The company performing the check mailed it to me.
Congratulations!!

If this is the case I would say yes. But normally I say no if I don’t want my current employer to know

Background check - work related
I don’t work for the state but when I interviewed for my current job they gave me a contingent offer and I had to consent to them calling my then boss as a reference. I’d never heard of that before but apparently it’s standard now at my university.

Nobody says Yes to their current role! Don't worry about it. Just say "currently employed."

If you feel your current supervisor will give a good reference and you’ve already gotten the job then it’s ok for them to contact. I chose no for mine because the boss at the job I was leaving was a bit unpredictable and I had only been there 7 months.

Background check - work related
Ok so HR emailed me on Monday that they received my signed background form and it takes 3 to 5 business days to get results. Yesterday I received another job offer which they gave me until Monday to get back to them. Job 1 is way better offer but I dont want to tell Job 2 no if something comes up on the background check, which I doubt but you just never know. Is it too soon to send an email to HR asking status?

Just be honest. Reach out and let them know you have another offer. Let them know they are your top choice, but you have to make a decision by Monday so you were hoping to find out that the background check cleared and there were no further steps. Most of the time companies never get back to you once they receive the OK on your background.
