I agree. I think he is going to push this up again and he is going to talk about schools next week I was told by someone else as I probably turned it off by then. I am sure it will be canceled for the rest of the year. Stop dragging us along. Do these every other day as you are losing listeners.

He is trying to fool us. He has no plans to change the restrictions or open up school any time soon. I don't know why he is dragging this out by not just being honest.

I'm over him. I am positive he will not allow schools to reopen until September, and restrictions will not begin to be lifted until June 1st at the earliest, possibly June 15th. So why not tell us that now?!? He knows full well it is not safe for children to return to school on May 15th.

Because he loves the power. He loves to hear himself talk. He wants people hanging on his every word like he is the Lord and King.
I wish to God I would have gotten the hell out of NY years ago. Now I feel stuck here with this guy at the helm during the worst possible times.

What about the kids in foster care who are getting no help and getting lost in the system? They stopped all services for kids in my area. A few weeks ago they cancelled a zoom call that we were suppose to have to get my son services. I can’t even imagine what is happening to the rest of the children, if they can’t even perform zoom calls. My cousin is a teacher and a lot of his students don’t have laptops or chrome books, many are not learning right now. That is a fact.

In regards to these children as well as ones who are in abusive homes, or woman who are getting beat by abusive partners right now-per our Governor- It's not death.
Period.
He's a real peach.

I can't even think about this for too long because I feel physically sick over it. All those poor innocent children..and now they have absolutely no one to help them. Not to mention stress level at home is 1000x higher than normal.

I'd be willing to bet some of those abused women and children might be thinking that death by corona is not worse.

I really feel he needs to apologize for his statements. They were so lacking in any kind of empathy it is disgusting.
Again, perhaps if someone beat him to a pulp and said- well at least it's not death by Corona virus- he'd have a little more sympathy.

I agree that he needs to apologize for that statement.

I don’t mind him some days, but his anecdotes are getting annoying. At first it was a welcome distraction.

He has no plan. The rest of the world has no plan. No one knows what to do. That scares me.

I feel a little bit better here because they have a gradual “plan” but it is taken day by day. Some students will be allowed to return to school (depends on exams). Certain shops with a square footage can open, but only a certain amount of people can be let in. Social distancing must be practiced in these shops. And people are pretty protected with unemployment, so I feel confident in that. However, that is taking a while. No large gatherings until August 31st. The hospitals are OK here and I have heard fewer sirens. Germans are major rule followers, so that helped.

But there is still no set plan.

I’m not sure where you are but in Suffolk County kids in Foster Care are still being serviced by CPS. They have to make those visits it’s a state mandate. What sucks is all the parent child visitation were suspended. Think about the mental effect this will have on the children. The trauma of being removed from your home and then you can’t even visit your parent. Courts are closed. Everything is at a standstill. Imagine if you were a parent who just completed your drug program and were scheduled to get your kids back at the next court date just to find out it was adjourned another 3 months?? Imagine how the kids feel in those situations as well. What also scares me is there are children out there suffering and now there is no oversight on any of these kid without schools being open. Who is out there to report suspected neglect? I am worried about the children who are in special ed and are not getting those services. Autistic children who a regressing without their school/therapies. The entire system and infrastructure is collapsing and there will be devastating effects for years to come. Heartbreaking. How is this all ok? How does our governor not see that by making sure not one single human gets the coronavirus, he is causing unbelievable suffering from so much more? There needs to be a way to care about and protect from both angles...but he has no clue on how to do that. And he doesn't seem to be trying.

Agreed, it’s tragic! That’s exactly what I mean. Everything you said, makes me so sad.

I am located in NJ. My son has ADD and has been struggling in school. Finally after 2 yrs, his Catholic school was able to get a meeting with a social worker and a lady from special services. The meeting was canceled and rescheduled via Zoom, but they cancelled that meeting saying all has been canceled indefinitely. Now my sons case isn’t as severe and Iuckily as tiring as it is, I can handle it because I am not working. What about all the kids you described that have autism etc. I have family members who are struggling because of this. It just really scared me when I received an email saying all meetings are cancelled indefinitely. Not scare for my son but other kids who are worse off.

I also know how the foster system works, as I adopted my son through the system. I know there are kids being forgotten and you’re right, what if that parent who worked so hard gives up and relapses.

Idk I am not scared about the virus, or even getting it, and maybe I’m a freak because I’m not scared of dying. But I know what’s it’s like to not have anything, or for a parent to feel so lost, or be a scared kid because you’re worried about whether you’re going to eat or not. That’s what freaks me out and brings me to tears during this.

Thank you for sharing your experience and professional opinion!

I think the is is that he has worked in government, and has only worked in big government. He has no experience with mental health, domestic violence, child welfare, social work etc. I’d love to see him consult some professionals in these areas and get their take on it as well so he could get a better of idea of what to do. I am beginning to think I'm missing something

I am NO DiBlasio fan, I can't stand the man. However, he was the one calling for a lock down while Cuomo said he would not do it. It took Cuomo a week to finally cave and start the lock down. All of these deaths he produces crocodile tears for everyday, perhaps some could have been prevented if he acted sooner. He KNEW this virus was spreading throughout downstate NY from February 29th. He didn't enforce a lock down until March 22nd. How dare he sit up there and tell New Yorkers we can't be arrogant and stupid by wanting to start slowly reopening. He failed. DiBlasio failed. The chancellor of NYC schools failed. And now the people of NY state are paying the price.

Yes, yes, yes.

He waited too long to lock things down downstate. On March 5th, I was hesitant to travel to LI for my sister’s bridal shower. I pretty much got told I was being ridiculous. I was neurotic the entire time my DS and I were there. We only went to the bridal shower and I made both of us wash our hands 5 million times. Later, people at that shower were diagnosed with COVID-19. My sister wanted us to go to a bar in Farmingdale, which usually I am all for, but I said no and stayed in instead. Cuomo should’ve locked things down once the man in Westchester tested positive.

I say that a lot - what would've happened if we locked down 2 weeks earlier - would things not be where we are now?

I hope we get some sense of normalcy soon - I just had my 10 year old in tears. He's done. My neighbor is allowing her son still to play with other kids in the neighborhood, outside only. My son hates to go outside since we told him he can't play with them... He's struggling with his writing, and doesn't want to ask for help since I'm overwhelmed with work. I was fighting back tears because it was just so sad. He hasn't shown much emotion about this until now - he's been chatting with friends every day on his Xbox and all but we've never talked about how he was feeling.

Did California shut down earlier? I think they did.
And they are still in the same situation as us.
Still locked down.
So I am not sure it would have mattered much.
We'd still be here... we'd just have been locked up even sooner.

True but, the curve would hopefully have been flatter. So many people spread the virus before things locked down.

I don't think California has anywhere near the cases and deaths that we have. I think the problem is we flattened the curve at a very high rate. So it is going to take us forever to get down to where Cuomo wants us. No amount of progress seems to make him happy. If we had flattened at a lower rate, we would perhaps be getting out of lock down sooner. Something tells me that NYC/LI will be the very last area in the entire country that is lifted from lock down. It didn't have to be that way, now we could be stuck like this for 3 more months.

Re: I am beginning to think I'm missing something

Cuomo needs to be reigned in. Enough is enough with him. He needs to get over himself. Maybe if he shut down and cleaned the subways before SEVEN WEEKS went by then we would be in a better place. Maybe if he USED the Javits/Comfort instead of allowing hospitals and nursing homes to be overwhelmed (for money reasons) then we would have less overwhelmed hospital workers and fewer dead nursing home residents. And today he said (in so many words) that people who need medical treatment OTHER than COVID (you know, unimportant things like biopsies, MRIs, chemo, etc.) are basically out of luck, wait it out, sorry! He is infuriating. He has no accountability whatsoever. Some reporters are surprisingly starting to press him on some of these issues and when they did today, he literally got up and walked out, ending the conference. He is unhinged. There ARE OTHER ISSUES besides COVID and the fact that he and others don't see that is going to cost us big time, and soon.

this is the worst part of this all.
We are stuck with this psycho at the helm and there is zero we can do about it.
There was an article posted the other day about law suits being brought for violations of constitutional rights. I hope to God that comes to fruition.
We have no recourse other than that it seems

I didn't see today's conference but I'm hoping him walking out was a maybe a sign that the questions were getting to him? Maybe he'll go home and think things over and change his tune a bit? I really don't understand how things like chemo, heart surgery, etc are considered "elective".

Cuomo isnt thinking about this because he is too busy today going public that he is “single and ready to mingle.” Yep.

At first I though elective meant things like plastic surgery or things like that. But it actually means procedures that are “scheduled” (rather than being rushed in by ambulance for an emergency).

My DH genuinely believes that if there is not a set plan out of this soon, there will be some type of civil unrest.
In Cuomo news, I saw a meme of him standing in front of a wall of masks that people from around the US have sent NY. It said, "I wonder if he knows they were sent for people to wear?" He is a total asshole.

I agree. These protests that everyone says are so terrible are only going to grow.
You can't keep people locked up indefinitely with no plan and no leadership and just talk on and on about nonsense every day.
Eventually people are going to rise up.

Cancer treatment is still happening at Sloan Kettering Probably because they are dedicated facility. They have a no visitors rule, and they cancelled my follow up appointment, but I am 8 years out from treatment.
But yes, the next thing to "unfreeze" needs to be those serious, but not technically emergency surgeries & treatments.

Agreed. Chemo and the like should not be postponed.
