Reopening Info...good news/bad news
So for those of you that would consider sending their kids...my camp director informed us today that there is a very good possibility that there WILL be camp this summer. He said it is up to the Suffolk County (or Nassau I guess) Health Department and they have told him they will give him a final answer and guidelines by next Friday 5/15. If it is a go, there will be a lot of things that are different in how camps are run.
I also read that Laura Curran said today that the earliest Phase 1 could start on Long Island (manufacturing/construction) is end of June. Part of the reason is that the "contact tracing" software won't be ready for at least 4 weeks. I am not sure how fast the Phases go after that.

So we won’t be starting until end of June with construction/manufacturing? What about stores? This is dreadful

The camp owner said the campers will NOT be wearing masks. It is too hot and not safe. He will require staff to wear masks for any indoor activities.

I believe she also said that in the meantime she hoped that more small businesses would be able to get an "essential" designation. I assume like certain retail stores for curbside pickup. I looked up the King's Phases and professional services like salons are Phase 2. Restaurant seating is Phase 3.

Good to know! Did they mention if they’d self distance everyone? Knowing how kids are, I just can’t see this possible.

She did say they were talking with state government on ways to open some businesses sooner. She said the economy will not survive until the end of June. Thank goodness some people realize Son of God is completely unrealistic with his laundry list of criteria. NYC/LI will open up in June of 2023 at this rate. I am not sure if they will be able to reopen LI without NYC following suit. Eastern Queens & Nassau are practically one & the same. We kind of have to be at least almost the same. And let me tell you, if Nassau County's economy can't survive through June, no way in hell NYC's will.

Re: Reopening Info...good news/bad news
Yes the quoting isn't working so I'm not going to quote.
It seems like there have already been discussions with the health department about camp because he seemed to have a lot of info on what the guidelines might be if it happens. Basically it will depend on the number of kids and how large the grounds are. Some examples he gave are that instead of kids running around rampant doing different activities with different kids all day, the age groups will need to stay together with only their group for the summer for activities, eating, etc. Each group will be spread out as space permits. But within their own group (like 10-15 kids), they won't be 6 feet apart from each other.

Construction in NYC is essential and also any project can apply for a waiver to work. It’s a process and they have to submit a lot of paperwork showing their safety protocols. I work in construction and was on a call yesterday regarding it. The issue is it’s not many of the construction companies - the owners of the projects are not wanting to start up work again. I think this has more to do with money than safety. If the jobs start back up the have to pay the bills. No work means no reqs coming in from the contractors.

This! Construction is important.
My husband is in construction, electrician. He keeps saying they need to open up construction and the economy will atleast start getting on its way. My DHs boss, is making guys fix up his shop to get people back to work since millions of dollars of work is shut down for him. He is able keep the jobs at Amazon, target etc..
Tbh I understand why we can just open up like other states, but I also think they are being too strict. 100% isn’t being driven by science and data, as much as we want to say and believe it is. This is becoming more and more political as well being overly cautious out of fear. I’m in no way a conspiracy theorist but I am surprised people believe the data and statistic they report at the briefings.
I think they need to start opening construction, elective surgeries, dental offices and small businesses. People are walking around target now to get out the house, why should big corps make all the money while small businesses go out of business or lose money?
In Nj thousands of people don’t any income in. Unemployment isn’t coming in at all for majority of people. For two months now!! If they aren’t going to fix this issue then start opening things up. And I’m not talking about schools, pools etc - I’m talking about small businesses, essential medical needs than can follow CDC guidelines but still make a living.
Sorry that rant was a lot longer than expected!!

The longer this goes on, the more ridiculous the reasoning about what can & cannot reopen becomes. He did say today though he is hoping for downstate NY to improve enough over the next month to have some sort of tourist season.

I was at Target at 9am today and it was already packed!!
People are kinda done. I feel like they are going to start reopening LI on their own.
It will be interesting to see what happens with camp now that they say Covid caused 3 kids to die.

My pool store website said pool openings are considered essential. We all know they are not essential Nice yes Important to people with pools yes! Necessary for a summer of house arrest of course Essential...not really

The pool I am a member to will not open until the earliest - July 1st if at all. The pool is rarely that crowded. I don’t see why they can’t just limit the number of patrons.
In my area, they’re allowing elective surgeries now. I’m pretty sure all construction had continued in my community. They’re building a new Starbucks and haven’t missed a day.

You should have seen the Walmart parking lot yesterday, it was insane!!! I ended up leaving and going to Target and it was far better there, but still busy. I don't go to the grocery store, because it's super busy there, but now I feel like Target and Walmart are the same. Now people want to get out and buy things other than food (kids need clothes, etc.), and with a choice of 2 stores in my vicinity, everything is going to be insanely crowded. How that makes sense is beyond me. Open more stores so it's not huge crowds of people in 2 stores that sell stuff people might need other than groceries.
