Do you think LI will have to wait for NYC to be ready?
I do. I just don't think one can realistically reopen without the other.

No. Based on the metrics for regions NYC is the 5 boroughs & only meets 4/7 metrics & LI is just Nassau & Suffolk & already meets 5/7 metrics.

I know they are considered different regions, but I still don't believe LI will be allowed to become fully functional before NYC. I also thought someone said Suffolk county was still 4/7.

Re: Do you think LI will have to wait for NYC to be ready?
NYS Covid Data
This hasnt been updated with yesterday's data (they typically update after the press conference) but NYC is currently 4/7 and LI 5/7.
Difference between NYC and LI is that NYC is failing on number of beds and number of ICU beds. In theory, the percentage could hit green in just a day or two. Long Island only has 3 days of continuous decline in deaths; so in order for that to go green we need to wait 11 days at minimum.
So some NYC could discharge enough people in 5 days to make them easily go green on those metrics while we are still red.
BTW, this site is great for data lovers. Every day they add more and more. Today they added all the fatality and testing data; so you can see the location, age breakdown and comorbidity factors.

The regional thing is bothering me. A region 10 minutes from my house opens tomorrow. My region can’t open because our 3 day death average is 6 instead of 5 and our 3 day hospital average is 18, not 15. Meanwhile almost all hospitalizations and deaths are 40 minutes away from me. It’s not like the virus knows these regions cuomo set up. I’m sure people will drive 10 minutes to the open region.

Re: Do you think LI will have to wait for NYC to be ready?
The social proximity of individuals is SO MUCH higher in NYC that you cannot really compare the two. The problem, however, is the travel from NYC folk to the Hamptons, esp over the summer. That could become an issue. But we do not rely on a subway system and the sheer population difference is really apples and oranges. The "curves" are so much smaller on LI vs. NYC.

I think they will have to work together think of all the people on LI that work in NYC if they are going by persons living in the region how do they control for it?

They say that you have to stay within your region. If you live and work on LI then you can come and go to work. If you have to go between regions, then you continue what you are doing now until both regions are open.
Edited to say - this is not anything that was officially said, this is my feeling on how they could help mitigate the issue above.

How would they ever stop someone who lives in, Queens for ex, from driving over the border into Great Neck? Have militia in the streets? I think it would be impossible to do. LI restaurants & businesses will be inundated with NYC residents if LI opens first. There is no way around it. FWIW, NYC may meet the metrics before LI does at this rate.

They wouldn't send couldn't. Upstate is opening, CT is opening, Rhode island is opening, and we all can just go there if we want. No one is stopping anyone.

Yep. I plan to go to CT this summer if they have stuff open. It's still a free country, regardless of how some people would like it to be. They haven't installed our house arrest ankle bracelets yet.

It makes me laugh as for one week wasn't the story that we are all going to open together?
I saw Kalahari and Kartrite have announced opening dates too.
