Sex talk?
When did you have the sex talk or the start of them with your kid... at what age?

Sex talk?
I highly recommend this series - you start when kids are 4 (then 7, then 10).

Re: Sex talk?
The summer before fourth grade. My son kept asking so many questions and there was no getting around it. My friend who is a psychologist told me, answer each question with as little information is possible, just answer the question asked, and if it illicits another question answer that. Don't drone on and on, because they might not be ready for everything. They might stop after that first initial question.
We kept trying to put it off by telling him it wasn't an appropriate conversation when his sister was around, and one day he saw she fell asleep while watching TV and ran in and asked to have the chat-he was just waiting for the perfect moment.

Re: Sex talk?
My son asked at about 3rd to 4th grade. I got the boy version of the American Girl series care an keeping of you. It explained everything in age appropriate language and we read it together. I let him ask me any questions he had. I agree with the other posters. Don't drone on.

Re: Sex talk?
I had it with my DD the summer before 6th grade and I am glad that I did as she learned SO much in the hallways at school during the first quarter of 6th grade. It also opened up a dialogue between us and she continues to come to me with questions about things she has heard and wants to know what it means. Although now she knows more than I do

Re: Sex talk?
I wish I knew about sex before the age of 10... my daughter started asking questions at like 4.... so I took out books from the library with her and we read and discussed. After that day she was good until about 7... had lots of additional questions... so I tried to answer them best I can and hopefully she is good for a bit... lol.... If she doesn't revisit it, I will be discussing again with her around 9...

Re: Sex talk?
I never had a big "sex talk" to be honest. I started talking to them about how babies are made when they were little, like 3 or 4. My oldest asked how his baby sister got inside me and I gave him the clinical sperm and egg story. As my kids got older, more details were added. It has been an ongoing conversation really their entire lives. They are all teenagers now and my boys know all about girls periods, how their bodies work, how girls bodies work, they know about STDs and condoms. My daughter too, knows all about her body and how it works and how boys bodies work. We have always talked about consent in age appropriate ways from the time they were able to talk. I never made it a big deal just matter of fact and part of an ongoing conversation.
