That seems to be a really high number for 5-6 weeks. Typically the higher the numbers are, they start to slow down. With numbers that high, it sounds to me like you should closer to 8 weeks. Once the betas hit a certain point, they don't rise as much as they do in the very beginning.
At 5 weeks pregnant, my beta was 2836, at 6 weeks 4129.
ETA: With beta numbers that high, they should be able to do a sono and see something.
ITA with all of this. I would have a more thorough conversation and ask why they think that these numbers would be for someone who is 5wPG.

There's no way you're only 5-6 weeks with numbers that high. Is there only one doctor at the practice you go to? I would be concerned that they though you were only 5-6 weeks with those kinds of numbers. Keep us posted.

Maybe not. Depending on the machine, and the skill/patience of the technician a day can make a huge difference. I would definitely see what the Dr says...

I agree with all of the previous posters. Your beta numbers for only 5 weeks are way too high. The two important hormones checked in pregnancy are beta HCG and progesterone. When you speak to your doctor ask about your progesterone levels also.

I just got a call back from my doctor's nurse regarding my Beta scores. I had blood drawn on Friday and the score was 40,340. After the blood draw today my Beta score was 49,811.
So I only went up a little over 9,500 and in normal cases she said they see a rise of over 75%.
The nurse claims that this is not the end of the road because my numbers ARE still rising, but that it's not close to where I should be. I have an appt Friday afternoon for another internal U/S and she said at that point they should be able to tell whether or not this is going to be a viable pregnancy.
I'm heartbroken right now. I was really hoping for good news. If you pray, please send a prayer for me and my nugget. If not, good vibes would be great. 
**UPDATE**
I just spoke with the doctor. He actually made it sound worse than the nurse did. I asked him about my numbers being so high for how far along they're assuming I am, and he said that for 6 weeks the numbers are high, but not unheard of. He said at this point with what the numbers showed, he's not very optimistic that this is going to be a viable pregnancy. I still have my appt for an internal on Friday and I guess that will be the deciding factor. I'm so upset.
i know you are upset but i am still so confused... your beta was so high, i am not sure why your doctor was so pessimistic  many people don't see anything at their first sono, i am hoping you get better news on friday
ETA: was your first sono internal or external?

I'm so sorry.
But, I also still think you're numbers are very high and agree that it's totally normal to NOT see anything yet if you are indeed only just 6 weeks. Sending you lots of for Friday's appt.
Just a thought, can you get a second opinion from another dr.?
