I just got a call back from my doctor's nurse regarding my Beta scores. I had blood drawn on Friday and the score was 40,340. After the blood draw today my Beta score was 49,811. So I only went up a little over 9,500 and in normal cases she said they see a rise of over 75%.
The nurse claims that this is not the end of the road because my numbers ARE still rising, but that it's not close to where I should be. I have an appt Friday afternoon for another internal U/S and she said at that point they should be able to tell whether or not this is going to be a viable pregnancy.
I'm heartbroken right now. I was really hoping for good news. If you pray, please send a prayer for me and my nugget. If not, good vibes would be great.
**UPDATE** I just spoke with the doctor. He actually made it sound worse than the nurse did. I asked him about my numbers being so high for how far along they're assuming I am, and he said that for 6 weeks the numbers are high, but not unheard of. He said at this point with what the numbers showed, he's not very optimistic that this is going to be a viable pregnancy. I still have my appt for an internal on Friday and I guess that will be the deciding factor. I'm so upset.
i know you are upset but i am still so confused... your beta was so high, i am not sure why your doctor was so pessimistic many people don't see anything at their first sono, i am hoping you get better news on friday
ETA: was your first sono internal or external?
internal.
...and I couldn't believe how pesemistic he was either. I guess he just wants me to prepare for the worst.
a similar thing happened to a girl on here, Stephybaby... they didn't see anything at the first sono, and her doctor actually recommended a D&C!!
well it turns out her dates were just a little off, and she is now a mommy
it is always good to be prepared for the worst, but it's not set in stone... good luck

I'm so sorry.
But, I also still think you're numbers are very high and agree that it's totally normal to NOT see anything yet if you are indeed only just 6 weeks. Sending you lots of for Friday's appt.
Just a thought, can you get a second opinion from another dr.?
I have a friend that is begging me to see her OBGYN, saying that she's the best. I guess I could always call her and see what she makes of all this. I'm just too upset to do anything at this moment.
sweety - i have to agree with this - GET A SECOND OPINION...your numbers are VERY high... can you call your friend and get the info???
do you need anything????

Re: Not looking good... ::UPDATE::
Why does he feel that it isn't a viable pregnancy?
Does he think it is an etopic pregnancy (when it is in your tubes)? What are his reasons? What exactly did he say to you?
I am sorry for the questions - but I think this office has left you worse than you were yesterday - and you don't have any answers

She just texted her doctors info to me. I'm going to call them in a few and see if I can set something up.
Thank you for being so sweet.
when you call - be sure to let them know what is going on - you aren't just a normal new patient...you have a problem and need some peace of mind...

That's what I was just saying to my BF--after talking to everyone yesterday I felt optimistic that it wasn't as bad as what the nurse made it sound like, and I thought that talking to the doctor would confirm that, but he really did make it so much worse. I feel like I have nothing to hope for anymore. That I should start emotionally detaching myself from my pregnancy. But I don't want to give up yet.
He said that they have been following these numbers for 35 years and they expect me at '6 weeks' to have numbers that are rising by at least 66% and I'm nowhere near that. I asked him about my numbers being so high for 6 weeks, and he said that they ARE higher than the norm, but they still fall in a range that is not considered 'abnormal' for being 6 weeks along. It was at that point that he said, and I quote, "Based on the numbers you are showing, I'm not optimistic that this is going to be a viable pregnancy." With that I just started crying and the conversation pretty much ended.
He didn't give me any reasons for his thinking that it's not going to be viable other than my numbers, and the fact that he didn't see what he could definitely identify as a sac and yolk at my last U/S (last Friday).
Honestly? I think this guy is ridiculous and hugely insensitve!! I would be going to see another doctor pronto!
I am praying that this all works out for you!!

Re: Not looking good... ::UPDATE::
I am sorry you are going thru this....
With such high beta numbers and not seeing anything on internal u/s I would be concerned with an ectopic pregnancy...has he mentioned it at all??? it is very dangerous and should not be ignored....
I would go and get a second opinion with a different doctor......his explanation just doesn't make sense...don't wait...
GL to you!!!

Re: Not looking good... ::UPDATE::
Definately get a second oppinion.
When I went for my first bloodwork my numbers were high and reflected my calculations of being 8 weeks along. I went for an internal and it measured me at 6 weeks. The doctor's reasoning was maybe I ovulated later then I thought. Made no sense to me since my numbers lined up with 8 weeks not weeks. The doctor stayed with what the sono showed and kept me 9 days ahead of what I had figured (I had my due date as Sept 5, he had it as the 14). I got a sono done when I was 4 months along and the doctor that did that was very set that this baby was indeed due Sept 5. Through out my entire pregnancy my OB had me for the 14 as my due date. Even after what the other doctor told him. Towards the end of my pregnancy when he was measuring me baby was measuring big. Basically baby was measuring to what I kept saying all along due Sept 5. The doctor became concerned and sent me for a growth sono. I went Aug 23 and the tech said to me that everything is fine and that in fact this baby should have been listed as Sept 5 due date. My fluids were low and since everything looked good the doctor finally realized he should have changed my due date. I was now considered full term and had to be induced because of the low fluids.
Moral of the story, sometimes doctors really have no clue. Get a second opinion. Your numbers are really high.
Good luck to you

I'm sorry you are going thru this I don't know anything about betas to give you advice but I'm a firm believer in second opinions if you are uncomfortable with what you have been told.
