Re: WWYD: Birthday Party Drama question

Because I'm a nosy cow and wouldn't be able to let it go, I'd ask her. Being the coward that I am I'd start out asking about the shirts and then at the end mention that DD was upset that her DD said she'd never go to her birthday party and see what she had to say.

The only thing that I am wondering is...
if you didnt know about this mom and dd's behavior towards other peoples parties, would you still question what was up? I am just thinking maybe you are internalizing the situation into something you guys did. Personally, knowing that you have been nice and Maddie has been nice, I would leave it alone.

Re: WWYD: Birthday Party Drama question

It would bother me. I think I would ask in a roundabout, Oh, Maddie is really gonna miss your DD at her party, too bad she can not make it, kind a way. I would probably fish a little but not come right out and ask. I might even go as far as asking, Oh do you have another party that day? That's too bad. KWIM

Re: WWYD: Birthday Party Drama question

I guess I'm in the majority, but I would leave it alone. Based on your description, this woman sounds a bit "off" anyway and in my experience, there probably isn't much to be gained by speaking to her.

There just seems to be some mothers who are constantly cultivating drama and I would be concerned that she would twist the conversation to fit her own agenda.

Re: WWYD: Birthday Party Drama question

She RSVP'd. Nobody has to give a reason why they can't make a party. I would let it go. There are so many other things to worry about than a mom and her drama. For all you know, all of these girls will be BFFs for the rest of their lives when they get older.

Re: WWYD: Birthday Party Drama question

I would ask whats up. That you remember her saying that she wasn't going to x's bday party because she was mean to her dd and that you just want to find out if anything happened between your dd and hers. Its weird. She won't go to your dd's but she invites your dd to hersChat Icon

Re: WWYD: Birthday Party Drama question

I agree that an RSVP is to be respected.. she said no and she doesn't need to qualify it.

But since you will be reaching out to her to ask about party favors, I think it's entirely appropriate for you to say something like "I'm sorry you guys couldn't make Maddie's party this year.. maybe next time!" and see if she says anything. If she doesn't take the bait, then you can make up a reason in your mind to try and abate your curiosity and just let it go!

ITA with this all. She replied no, maybe they have something to do and the mom doesn't want the DD to get upset so she told her something else and the little girl is just misconstruing the info?? Ask her about the iron-on favors and see if she offers up any more info.

At least you get RSVP's! I invited 15 kids to my kids party and 1/2 didn't even respond at all (and that 1/2 didn't come either!)....

Re: WWYD: Birthday Party Drama question

I would not ask. It sounds like mother issues being handed down to daughter. Based on the "too fancy" comment about the previous invite, the mother's public posturing about X's party (regardless of the issues between X and this girl), the way the daught said to Maddie that she won't be attending any of her parties and the lack of response to your generous offer of taking pics, I would not feel an iota of interest in knowing why. I have a feeling it's nothing personal. And not that you are asking but I would scour the internet for ways to replicate the favor rather than ask her. But that's me, if I get cold feedback from someone, I don't seek them out, even if they have info that I want.

ITA.

The mother sounds like a real piece of work and unfortunately teaching the daughter the same behavior.

I would let it go.

I would also let it go. She responded and doesn't owe an explanation as to why her daughter isn't attending. I would just leave the ball in her court should she want to contact you now.
