I spent last night in the hospital***UPDATE- I WENT TO THE CARDIOLOGIST***12/18 update***12/20 UPDATE
For the second time in a week, I was having horrible chest pains. It felt like someone was squeezing my heart and shaking it...so painful.
I was so scared, so was my husband. He called my mom to come over at 9:00 last night to stay with the boys through the night and we went over to Winthrop emergency.
They gave me an EKG immediately, then took blood and my vitals. The EKG was all over the place.
I was in a bed in the ER by 10:15. They put me on a heart monitor and an IV. And then we waited for a cardiologist.
They didn't have any great reason for it, but the monitor showed my beats ranging from 50- 120 within minutes. They said I have some crazy arythmia (sp?), but ruled out a heart attack (based on enzyme levels in my bloodwork) .
So scary. I have to follow up with my own cardiologist.
Just kinda asking for hugs. Thanks ladies, for letting me share. ------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE- (12/07) Though the cardiologist didn't know much yet, he said something is definitely going on. My EKG read my heart rate at 90. The cardiologist said that someone my age should have a reading of 50-60. Plus, the bottom number of my blood pressure was high, and my top number was very low. He didn't say much besides that it was not good. The doctor said it could be a few things, but he already eliminated 1 and I've kinda eliminated the 2nd...which leaves a horrible 3rd. 1st was possible extreme anemia. Looking at my blood work, though he said I am anemic...it's not enough to cause the arrythmia, palpitations, racing and the chest pain. 2nd cause could be a hyperactive thyroid. I kinda elimated this because with hyperactive, I should almost NEVER be tired and have a super high metabolism...neither of which is true in my case. But hopefully I am wrong and this IS the case. Cause the 3rd possible cause is that I have a heart defect. I have a million tests lined up. First on Friday I have to pick up a halter monitor and wear it for 24 hours to record my heart rate. Then on Sunday, I have to start collecting urine for 24 hours in this HUGE-AZZ jug and return it on Monday. Dec. 19th I have an echocardiogram (a sonogram of my heart). Dec. 29th I have a Stress Echo (treadmill then another heart sonogram) Then on January 4th...I find out all the results. Guys...I am so scared. Everytime I look at my sons, I can't help but cry. My husband is a mess too, but tries not to let it show. My parents are a wreck, but I kinda downplay it with them. I don't need them to be more nervous. I'll keep you all posted as I get through each test. Please, I just ask that you say a prayer or two for me. Hopefully it is nothing, and we'll all be able to laugh about it when it's all over.
-------------------------------------------------------Update 12/18-
I have my echocardiogram scheduled for tomorrow. If it's not too much to ask, could I have some more prayers and hugs!! Thanks so much and I will keep you all updated!!! ------------------------------------------------------- Update 12/20: Had the echo yesterday. It was so weird seeing my heart on the screen (well, no more strange than seeing a person moving in my belly I guess ). But as I said to the technician,"at least it's beating", we both had to laugh. Speaking of the tech, I asked how it looked. And she replied, with no inflection to the voice, "Um...ok" Gee...that was reassuring. So now the next thing is a stress echo on the 29th. And then I find out ALL the results on Jan.5th . Thank you everybody for all of your prayers, FM's, care and concern.

Feel better. It is so scary when the arrhythmia acts up. I hope your cardiologist can give you some good advice.

Re: I spent last night in the hospital
Are you on any medications?? I had a similar problem a while back and it turned out to be because of a medication I was on for something else. I had so many tests done, had to wear a halter monitor for 24 hours, went in for some surgical procedure and it turned out that was all it was! Feel Better!!!

Re: I spent last night in the hospital
Thanks so much ladies!! I truly appreciate all the hugs and well wishes! You are the best!
The doctors were joking that I am a medical marvel. I am not on any medications, I do not have any history of heart disease or heart attacks in my family, they kept TELLING me I am young which felt GREAT because I will be 33 on SAturday , and I am healthy. This arrhythmia...nobody could figure out WHY it was happening.
I will probably have to wear a monitor for a while and see where that leads.
It was just great to hear it wasn't a heart attack. Leaving my house when we went to the hospital, I broke down.
I wondered if I would ever see my sons again. It was the scariest and saddest feeling.
I am so appreciative for the clean bill of health. Hopefully, my follow-up will be fine also.

Oh Gosh Val, you must have been freakin out. MY PMD is a cardiologist if you need his name. My mom has arrythmia too, she takes a medication for it, no caffeine and she has had no more problems.
You know I am here for you if you need it.
