The War on Christmas
With all the hubbub about retailers now allowing their employees to say 'Merry Christmas' rather than 'Happy Holidays', I'm wondering if anyone has wished you a Merry Christmas during your holiday shopping?
No one has wished me a Merry Christmas. Only 'Have a nice holiday.' I think I'm offended.

Re: The War on Christmas
The cashier in TJ Maxx wished me a "Merry Christmas" and to be honest, I thought the opposite... "Hey, what if I was Jewish?".
DH is Jewish and I asked him if it bothers him. He said he's just gotten used to people assuming Merry Christmas all of these years.
JMO but, I think it should be Happy Holidays.

Re: The War on Christmas
Actually, a few people have whispered it to me. As if they aren't sure if it's okay to say it out loud. I've noticed a nervousness about the whole thing. I find it refreshing to hear someone wishing me a "Merry Christmas". I'm too scared, normally. It's really kind of sad.

Re: The War on Christmas
It's just all so ridiculous. I'm all for including everyone and making sure no one feels like they are being slighted, but people feeling like they can't say Merry Christmas is just crazy. What we should REALLY be saying is, "Happy Consumersday!" or "Happy Spendyourmoneydays". Because, if anyone else has noticed, it's not like it's all about the actual holidays anymore, anyway.

Re: The War on Christmas
Actually as someone who celebrates Christmas, I would be offended if someone said Merry Christmas...What if I were Jewish or didnt celebrate christmas?
I dont think wishing anyone a merry christmas, unless you know them is appropriate at all.

Re: The War on Christmas
I don't think any retailers have wished me a Merry Christmas this year. I usually remember when they do. Since I'm Jewish, I usually purposely say "Happy holidays" in response. I'm always tempted to say "and a Happy Chanukah to you" and see what reaction I get!

Great attitude!!
I feel that if I get a Merry Chrismas from a cashier....so be it...Christian or not...its better than the grunting you usually get during the year!!

Re: The War on Christmas
The other day I was in a church (for my job) and I wished them Happy Holidays because I'm so used to being "PC". She wished me Merry Christmas....and I was like "yeah Merry Christmas." It was so nice to hear it. I forgot where I was for a second.

The guy at the bank was afraid to say anything so I said, "Happy Holidays!"
Then he said, "Oh, you too!!" with a huge smile.

That's funny! Macy's wished me Happy Holidays when I paid for something. My last name seems to go either way and they were not looking for a lawsuit.

I haven't done much holiday shopping this month (did it all beforehand). But when I have gone out, it's been Happy Holiday's. I think I got Merry Xmas once.

as someone that was born and grew up in a country mostly catholic, Happy Holidays seems soooo impersonal to me... I want to hear Merry Christmas!!!!!!
