11 month old doesn't want table food
I'm still having issues with Mason and trying to get him to eat any table food. He's 11 months now! Figured he'd be on some table food. He does have puffs, but now he's going backwards b/c of his allergies.
He gags on anything and if it's a certain texture or taste he doesn't like he makes a face and spits it out. Sometimes he chokes and gags. He's on Stage 2 Jar Food.
Please tell me my son isn't the only one who won't eat table food.
I try a bagel or anything like that and he locks his mouth closed and shakes his head. Now, if it's plastic or a toy (even dog food) he'll put that in his mouth
He's going to be on formula the rest of his life. At 21 he's going to order a Vodka and Similac on the rocks

Re: 11 month old doesn't want table food
Can you try chopping things small and mixing them into the stage 2 foods? That way he may get familiar with the different textures of certain foods like chicken and meatballs while eating it in the foods he likes? DD is just about to turn 11 months and right now loves spinach/breadcrumb patties. I let her dip them into a veggie puree which she is familiar with and seems to love that

Believe me I tried and daycare works on it with him too. He knows and will spit out any chunks.

Re: 11 month old doesn't want table food
I'm right there w/ you. DS turns 1 today & the ONLY table food he'll eat is bananas (mushed) & yogurt--otherwise its all jarred baby food & breastmilk.
He too shakes his head or spits it out. I'm going to see what the ped says on Monday.

Thank you sooo much for posting this. Please let me know what the Ped says. His year appt is in June and I want to talk to the Ped about this too. If there's a specialist or something.
Funny thing is she said some babies with texture issues start talking later, but he does say some words.
Please FM me and keep in touch on this b/c I feel like he's the only one not eating any table food. If I put cheerios or puffs on his highchair he plays with them and then throws them on the floor.

Re: 11 month old doesn't want table food
While my 11 months old has been gobbling down table food since about 7-8 months...my almost 2 year old nephew still lives on stage 2 baby food because he doesn't like the table food. He just recently started more food, but loves yogurt and stuff like that. Every kid is different and he will find something he likes.
If he eats puffs, have you tried making a waffle or pancakes and just cutting it up into little pieces so he can pick it up and eat it just like the puffs.

I'm afraid to b/c he gags and chokes easily. He even gags on puffs, which is why I gave him a bagel to gum on. He won't have it. It's almost like he gets mad at table food.

Re: 11 month old doesn't want table food
My best advice is to keep trying new things and old things and don't sweat it. My oldest son wanted no part of table food until into his late 11 mo - not long before he turned 1 - it just snapped and he loved food one day and couldn't get enough. He became a great table food eater and would try anything and at 5 he is still a pretty decent eater and does try new things. Up until then it was all formula and baby food and some puffs/cheerioes type stuff. He'd gag and puke even if I tried stage 3 foods. My younger son - he was a cruchy eater for a long time - very few table foods he'd eat - mostly crackers, taosted waffles and pretzels and things like that for well over a year. Little by little food grew on him and he'd eat more. He still at 2.5yrs not the most daring eater but has come a long was....he is mostly picky with meats (eats hot dogs, sausage, chicken nuggets, meatballs and pork roast), eats many veggies and fruit and most kiddie friendly foods.

We found that the foods that have mixed textures don't work. like any of the stage 3 baby foods. My DD would eat the lasagna and swallow the liquidy part and spit out the little balls of pasta. So i would try something that's all one texture. Also he may not like the puffs, the flavors and what not. What my DD like best is the baby mum mum's rice rusks. Its shaped so they can hold it and suck on it or bite it and it pretty much disolves in the mouth.
It's all a combination of taste and texture, so i would try different brands or even go for the bigger finger foods(like the wagon wheels) and see if holding it himself and trying it may give it a different texture.

Re: 11 month old doesn't want table food
My 13 month old still prefers babyfood. She will eat some solids but not much to speak of, considering her age. I pretty much will puree anything to get her to eat it. You name...I will mash it. I just go with it; her older sister was the same way. At 2 years old, I was still doing some babyfood with her. At this point, I try to just make sure she gets a balanced diet---and I try not to focus on the consistency.
I had to laugh about your Vodka & Similac comment. Really though---by the time my first daughter was 2.5 years old she was off of baby food. It is what it is.
Hang in there and try not to get too frustrated

Re: 11 month old doesn't want table food
Thanks Ladies! Believe me I try everything with him. SOmetimes I get scared b/c he starts to choke. I'd rather him stay on Stage 2 then have to keep patting him on the back only for him to end up throwing up the food. He has teeth too. Maybe he doesn't "gum" enough or he doesn't know what to do. Been working with him on this for a couple of months
he does have yogurt that he loves. He's had soup with carrots and little pieces in it
He also used to love puffs, but had to have them one at a time. Since his allergies it's setting him back and he won't even try that. He's so congested
