11 month old having hard time eating

My boy never had any problems before. The dr said to introduce texture and stage 3 foods. He was doing okay with some, but would gag a bit. He was finally starting to get the hang of it, but now doesn't want to eat anything fed to him. He loves chewing on real fruits and puffs and he'll chew pieces of chicken nuggets and other meat but he won't swallow any of it. I don't know what to do, he wants to be a big boy and won't eat baby food but he's not getting anything from the table food since he won't swallow. Anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this? Thanks!!!

You may want to stop with stage 3. The chunks mixed in with the puree can really through them off and make them not know what to do. I tried stage 3 once and ds gagged on the chunks and it didn't go well...I skipped it and went right to table foods. Once he figured out that it wasn't puree and chunks, he started to eat on his own...

It could also be teething...DS goes on a food strike when he has teeth coming in...We are in the middle of one now...I just keep trying him with both baby food and regular food...Good luck...It is frustrating...

Thanks for this. He's very interested in table food and likes the flavors. He will chew and chew and chew but then take it out of his mouth and not swallow. I don't know if that will just come with time or if I should do something to help him out.

When the food is in his mouth & chewed, can you offer him a drink? Maybe he needs a little assistance?
