12 month blood test results
DS had one oddity in his first year blood test results--he shows signs of having had mono!
I just read about it a bit and it's not common in young children his age, but they do get it, and the symptoms are much less severe than with older children, usually the same symptoms as a cold. He did have a couple colds in a row in October early November, which may have been it.
Anyway, his doctor said he is not contagious now, and as long as he seems healthy (he does) there isn't much to do to treat this anyway. May explain why he lost weight though, and why he had so much trouble gagging on table foods until a few weeks ago. It's possible he had a sore throat for awhile. She wants to run some follow up bloodwork in a couple months to see if his system has recovered, but that is it.
Otherwise, his tests were fine thankfully! Odd though.

Oh no - I hope he hasn't been kissing too many other babies
Sorry - just kidding.
I hope he is feeling better and that it is gone. I had no idea that children that young got mono!!! I would never think to check DD for mono if she had cold like symptoms. I generally think of it as a college thing since it often goes around the dorms - but I guess nothing surprises me.

I think mono enlarges the spleen also (that's why they say no gym for school age kids). So I would just make sure he's not doing a lot of "rough play" (not that most 12 month olds do though). Hope he gets better soon!

Re: 12 month blood test results
Thanks! I asked him who he has been kissing also!
Yup, apparently toddlers and preschoolers do get it. I know, I was really shocked when his doctor called, especially since he isn't sick at all now, and didn't even seem very sick the last time he had a cold in late October, early November. I'm guessing that's when he got it, but it's hard to say. At any rate, he's not sick at all now, so he's fine. I did read that about the spleen, and while he doesn't do rough play really, he is walking and falling, though I would think a walking fall would not injure it?
Strange, but I can't say it's really such bad news.
