18 month old activites on a plane
I am flying to Florida with my very active 18 month old son. Any ideas for things to keep him occupied?

Re: 18 month old activites on a plane
We're going in April and I'm planning on bringing the portable DVD player, books, a few toys and lots of snacks. DS is the type to be more entertained with the "new" stuff he can get into on the plane. Good luck and let us know how it goes!!

Re: 18 month old activites on a plane
I just picked up those wonder coloring books from Crayola that use the special markers that only color on the paper - lots of snacks, shoot, I need more stuff! I'm going to have to go book shopping tomorrow... We don't have a portable DVD otherwise I would def bring it!
ETA we are leaving for a similar trip soon too!

Re: 18 month old activites on a plane
We took DS to FL when he was about 21 months old. We basically filled a kiddie suitcase with stuff for him.
First was the portable DVD player and many dvds. Coloring books, new crayons, snacks (his faves in travel pkgs to make it feel special). Some NEW toys, one being hte leapfrog "blackberry" which he loves, some cars, planes, a travel aquadoodle, a travel magnadoodle, some new books as well as some faves, a few lollipops.
The DVD player alone kept him busy about 75% of the time. He loved having it on his table and taking the DVDs out and putting new ones in about every 2 minutes.
ETA: most of this was NEW stuff because DS will spend 20 minutes with a new toy trying to really figure it out (where the on off switch is, the volume, various sounds etc) so I knew if I got a few new things it would engage him for awhile. Although all the movies were hte faves of the moment because for him it takes awhile to "accept" a new DVD! We watch the first 5 minutes of new DVD about 100 times before he lets me move on and we can get to the end!

Re: 18 month old activites on a plane
DS will be almost 3 when we go.
Game plan:
DVD player LOTS of DVDs Food... LOTS of food Juice
Unfortunatelly, DS only likes certain toys. Cars... but using his garage. Throwing or kicking balls. Using a balance beam.
yup... I am in trouble!!!!
I might have to have DH walk him down the aisle some.

Re: 18 month old activites on a plane
My DD is 17 months old and she LOVES her Magna Doodle. She has the one with extra magnets in different shapes to press on the board. Keeps her busy forever!! They have small travel size ones if you don't want to lug around the full size version. Maybe a portable DVD player too so you can play cartoons and kid movies for him. My DD loves "Finding Nemo". She can watch it from beginning to end. Maybe a few favorite books too would be good.
Good luck. Have a safe trip.

Re: 18 month old activites on a plane
Before we flew to Florida when DS was 18 months, I hit the Dollar Tree. I stocked up on new toys. He got anything that looked like he may enjoy it for more than one minute. His favorites weren't necessarily toys. They were different kinds of small flashlights, a remote and the favorite was the big calculator. Buttons and lights. Those were his favorite things at that age, so I went crazy. I never showed him the stuff until we actually got on the plane. New toys=happy kid.

Re: 18 month old activites on a plane
In addition to the above, colorforms or re-useable sticker books ! I have even bought a roll of scotch tape with me - they love to stck it, pull it off etc...
I know the age is for a bit older, but I also love Bendaroos or Wikki Stix...
ITA about going to the dollar store and buying "non-toy" items...I did this as well

Re: 18 month old activites on a plane
We flew with DD at that age. We brought lots of snacks and quiet toys.
We didn't have a DVD player then, but if you have one that would be great.
I'll be honest, what occupied her most was looking out the window, looking at the other passengers and looking at the inflight magazine.

Re: 18 month old activites on a plane
We flew when DD was 15 months - I brought: DVD player with 2 videos/movies 2 hand puppets I got for $1 at target several books When I grow up with Elmo - I LOVED this - it is a small flat plastic case (DD still likes it I think I might buy a new one b.c it is pretty worn out) it is a book BUT the inside is magnetic- and it comes with various background pages, different outfits that go by profession and then an elmo and zoe magnetic dolls. DD just loved to play with them they stick to the inside of the book and you can change things around it kept her occupied for a while and was quiet.
Travel doodle - we have this one and a really small one that is called a clip on doodle which is small enough to fit in a small bag which was also great at WDW for meals or in long lines or waits for shows. I can't find a link to the small one but have seen it at BBB. A non messy way for them to color/draw. I also had something from crayola where you fill the "writing circle" with water and it "draws" on a board - so you don't have to worry about messes on the plane.
Then I brought drinks and plenty of snacks.
