No suggestions but, thanks for posting - I sent DH to TRU with FIL the other day to buy a swingset and checked out all of the options and came back and told me I needed to ask about this LOL!

Re: 18 month old..what float for the pool??
DD is 21 months but hasn't wanted to be in a float for months now... I just ordered her these arm floaties yesterday from amazon. I think they are going to be great!
floatsafe floaties LINK
They also have them in blue.

I'm feel the same so we're both wimps! but I'm sure they're enough!
I can't decide what to get either. Joey now LAYS back in the bathtub "to swim" and he FREAKS me out, this kid has no fear, so MY FEAR is he'll just dart for the pool. I'm almost leaning towards those bathing suits with built in floating device, so he can't take it off! but I think he'll hate it.

Re: 18 month old..what float for the pool??
I bought DD a life-jacket at BJ's last weekend ($20!). More for when we go on my parent's boat this summer, but we plan on taking her swimming in it. I don't consider those blow up floats for their arms to be safe at all, and would not feel comfortable having her use them, even at an older age.

Re: 18 month old..what float for the pool??
We bought DS (20.5 months) a life vest at Walmart to use in the pool. Since our friends all have inground pools, I would not feel safe with him walking around the pool with anything less then a life vest.

Re: 18 month old..what float for the pool??
I think I'm getting DS a lifevest. I feel like its the safest and wont bother him. I think the swimmies would annoy him and I would put him in a float with that anyway. He wouldn't have fun just being stuck in the middle of all those floatation devices I think the lifevest is the best option, he'll have a little freedom and its safe.

I think DS needs more than floaties too.
I was thinking of something like this...

Re: 18 month old..what float for the pool??
With all the entrepeneurs out there, you'd think they could come up with puddle jumpers for tots under 30lbs
I dont know what I'm going to do with DS this summer. I KNOW he is going to hate being confined in a tube thingy. I bought him a swim suit with floatation thing in it but it didnt get the greatest reviews and I bought the water wings but dont know how well they will work either. I need something that will keep him vertical in the water

I did a lot of reading on this yesterday... I thought i'd go with a vest at first but ended up thinking it would be more annoying for her up and wouldn't work as well as these swimmies.
The one with the tube attached to it, I wouldn't get that. If they lean forward they go right under and the tube is then covering them holding them under. I know i'd never let go of her even if she had that on, but I don't like the idea of it.
The swimmies I posted (floatsafe floatie) I didn't read any bad reviews. They are only blown up on 2 sides and the 3rd side is a soft material that velcros underneath the arm. They are for ages 1-3. I try to remember to post once we get them and use them next week.

I really like the idea of that one, but it's 30 lbs and up.

Crap - just saw that - 30 lbs - I'm in the same boat as you - DS will be 18 months this summer and in no way is he going to want to be confined to his float - he hates it now and I end up carrying him around in my arms in the pool

I'll let you know... i'm sure it'll be better than what we use now which is nothing!! Gripping on to her for dear life in the pool gets tiring.

Re: 18 month old..what float for the pool??
When we didn't have the puddle jumper, we used arm floats and a small blow up swim ring together. Did the trick.

That first one will not keep your child upright. It's good for teaching how to swim, but unless you are right there helping them stay up, they fall forward
