Re: 1st birthday party - no favors?
I wouldn't necessarily think of it as tacky, especially since you are having something for the kids.
It seems as though you are interested in edible favors but the price steers you away. I too was thrown abak by the prices of edible favors, however, after much research I found a vendor with reasonable prices. I used Emma's Edibile favors (this is the link) for DD's Christening Photo Cookies and Photo Lollipops, they were reasonable at 1.25 a pop and came out great (look and taste wise). I would highly recommend them. HTH.

Re: 1st birthday party - no favors?
I don't think favors are a must. In fact, I'm not even doing goodie bags for my DD's 1st birthday. We have a lot of kids but the ages are all over the place and it would be crazy try to make such individualized goodies bags. Instead, what I've done is buy lots of fun little things like paddle balls, bubbles, glow sticks, coloring pages, stickers, crayons, card games, etc. and I'm setting up a "kids fun table" at her bday party so there will be things for kids of all ages to do. At the end they can keep everything. I thought that would be easier and more fun.
For the adults I may just have some candy on each table with personalized wrappers. I'm not putting too much effort into adult favors. For my DD's christening I had done Tic-Tacs with personalized labels and silver boxes filled with Hershey kisses and tied with a ribbon and I had so much left over because some people forgot to take theirs. Annoying!

For DS2's party, I bought 2 boxes of Hersey bars from Costco and slapped a sticker on them. Relatively cheap (way under a $1 each ) and everyone was pleased to leave with a memento of the day. I didn't do anything for DS1's first birthday though
And they would have been yummy...had I not left them in my purse in the car when it was 100 degrees outside and they melted
Oh no!!!

Re: 1st birthday party - no favors?
I've never been to a first birthday party where adults got favors, only the kids. I don't think it's an issue!

Re: 1st birthday party - no favors?
::Crashing:: but I would never expect a favor as an adult at a 1st birthday party
My friends Mom at her granddaughters 2nd birthday, gave out magnetic frames with a picture of her in it. It was so cute but was shocked at getting a "favor"

I wouldn't even think twice about not getting a favor.
Don't worry about it at all.

Re: 1st birthday party - no favors?
In my family, adults would be surprised to get a favor at a first birthday. I did the cookies from Sugar Chic and I think the adults gave them to the kids - so pointless!

Re: 1st birthday party - no favors?
I think favors should be banished from all events! They cause sooo much stress for the party thrower, cost a lot and half the time are forgotten or thrown away. I have a drawer full of cookie cutters, measuring spoons, ice cream scoops etc. For my baby shower I gave out Godiva Hot Chocolate (it was a small shower) Almost half were left on the tables! I am so done w/ favors.
Sorry for the rant.

Re: 1st birthday party - no favors?
Im only giving favors to the kids. I'd feel badly for an adult who felt entitled to a favor from a one year old's birthday party. They are getting a meal.

Re: 1st birthday party - no favors?
If it helps, my newphews/nieces birthday parties have never had separate favors for adults, just for the kids, so I am sure its fine and not tacky
