1st Birthday Summer BBQ Party Menu
Okay... trying to finalize some stuff for my son's party next month...
We're doing it at a park pavilion, so we're going the BBQ route.
This is what I'm planning, so far:
Chips, pretzels, Pirates' Booty in beach pails on the tables
Hamburgers/Cheeseburgers Hot Dogs Chicken Macaroni Salad Potato Salad Cole Slaw Macaroni and Cheese (for little ones, but enough for everyone) Baked Beans Tossed Salad with Italian Dressing
Condiments: Ketchup, Mustard, Sauerkraut
Dessert is SWEETNESS OVERLOAD:
Birthday Cake and cupcakes (from Lady J's), cake pops (from a friend), rice krispie treats, fruit, a make your own sundae station and a candy buffet (with pixie sticks, wax syrup sticks, fun dip, swedish fish and gumballs).
Drinks: Soda, Beer, Capri Sun, Water, Gatorade, Iced Tea/Lemonade and those little cheap "barrell" looking drinks that I remember having at BBQ's when I was a kid (before anyone cared about how unhealthy things were... lol. I'm shocked they still make them!).
Coffee, Milk, 2% Milk, Creamer, Sugar, Sweet N Low, Equal, Splenda.
Anything I'm leaving out that would be good to have?
Any tips for how to make the Mac N Cheese in advance so it tastes good that day? We'll probably have it on a sterno... I just don't want it to be dry. (I'm making the Velveeta recipe with the real Velveeta cheese.)
Thanks!

I would add a pasta dish and fruit.
I always try to have a large assortment of fruit for the kids.
I agree with this. A nice big fruit salad or a HUGE watermelon is so refreshing on a hot day. I also agree with a pasta salad or some kind of salad that is more oil based. Some people might not want a may or or cream based salad, and it's a pretty dense meal so it would be lighter to eat. Maybe some veggies?

Good point.. I will add a pasta salad.
I did have fruit in there... I'm planning an Edible Arrangements in a Mickey base, but will also have cut up watermelon to supplement it.
How do you think I should add veggies? Just a veggie platter? Or COOKED veggies?
Thanks!

My kids like cherry tomatoes and carrot sticks.
I had a tossed salad with dressing on the side at my last bbq. I had about 5 different salad dressings. I think most people found a dressing they liked.
