small party at my house
about 25 people (including kids)
I am having the following:
Heroes and salads to eat
beer, and soda
Pull string pinata
Moon bounce for the kids
decorate your own cupckae station
handheld bubble machines
coloring books, etc
eta: with everything, favors, food, favor fillers,etc, I guess it may come to about 500 bucks

I had the party @ my mother's house, we had about 45 people- we had it catered, had Twinkle Town clown, cookie monster, and moon bounce castle. We had beer/wine/soda... Val did favors- I think all told it was about $1500

I put $2000 or more! I am having it at a place and we are inviting about 50 adults and 18 kids. It will come to about $2500 for the place. Then I spent about $200 on favors (favor boxes from Valerie (joenick) and then fillers for the boxes. Then I need entertainment and I don't know how much that costs yet. And I spent $150 on my centerpieces. And probably $100 on balloons.

We are going to be having a pretty big party but the family is really big so that sort of dictated.
It'll be about 75 adults and 25 children.
I am estimating to come in over 2k for the party.

My older son's first bday was over $2000. We had it at a hall, had it catered, and with favors/ decorations/ cake/ open bar...it all added up.
For my younger son's birthday, since his bday is in June, we had it at home. Spent a FORTUNE on food/ drinks/ decorations/ favors/ rented tents and tables...probably wound up being around $1500- $2000 again.
But I LOVE throwing bday parties. My son will be 6 in a few weeks and his party is costing around $1000. These party places are soooo $$$$. I always say I should just open up one of my own.

We had DS's at my mom's last year and we had I think 35 adults and 6 kids including DS. I had 3 dishes catered and then I made 2 dishes, a waitress, balloons, we rented chairs and 2 tables, favors for the kids, and I think we spent probably $700.
DD's I have a feeling will be more. I think we are having a bigger party for her since her christening was small (well it was still 40 people).

I'm thinking $600-$700.
We're having it at home the last weekend in April and I'm praying it won't be too cold for everyone to be outside because I can't fit them in the house. We spent a lot for his Christening last summer to buy tents and tables and such knowing we'd use them in the future.
So it's an invite list of 62, but in reality it'll be more like 40-45 since some of those are coutesy invites to out of state family.
It's mostly for catering/alcohol and some decorations. I don't need to entertain kids because there will only be a handful and all but one will be about a year. So I don't need to go crazy and have an inflatable or a clown or anything.

I agree. But to each is own. and since I know I don't have the money having such a huge party is NOT an option. Would I if money wasn't an option? Don't know cause I never had that extra money to spend on a party.
However, the day my DH adopts my DD #1 I am having the biggest party ever. Everyone will be invited.....the mail man, garbage men everyone!!!!! I'll save for years if I have to.

My first thought too 
We did small, at home parties with just immediate family on both sides (about 30 people). I cooked platters of food (sausage and peppers, ziti, chicken marsala, chicken fingers, salads, etc.) and we had a cake ordered from our favorite bakery. I did small favors for the kids.
I also did a playdate GTG for the kids and their friends. I just ordered a pie for the adults and kids have kid-food

Since we went small for the Baptismal, we are going big for the birthday. Probably over 3K. About 75 - 100 people invited, and maybe 60 - 70 people will show.
We are having it catered in a family members house.

Well under $500.
Family at the house
Catering by Costco... whatever they have.
Some balloons.
There are no other kids in the family anywhere near their age so I'm not worrying about entertainment.
I have less than 2 months and have barely started planning. It's only a first b-day party, I'm not sweating it.

Under $500. We had immediate family at the house. We had it catered.
We bought a few decorations, invites, and favors (from Joenick) and "fillers" for the favors.
My parents bought the cake and MIL also made some dishes.
I loved it.
We did have a big Christening party, but, kept the Bday small.

I am having ds 1st b-day at home with 15 children (including mine), and 8 adults. We keep it very simple a few pizza's ($50) ice cream cake ($50) favors ($90) some things to fill the favors ($30) and a craft for the children to do ($30) oh and balloons ($10) So looks like I'll be under $300.
