1st foods question - HELP!

OK...so you wait aand wait until the moment finally arrives where you can start feeding baby solids right? Well I got the ok from the pediatrician yesterday (yes yesterday...DD has her 1st ear infection and we had to make a quick trip on a Sunday to the doctors office, but that's a whole other story) and what he told me to give her seems like a lot. I was just wondering what other's started out with.

Here's what he said:

10 tsp of cereal in the a.m. AND 10 tsp in the p.m.

a jar of fruit over the couse of a day

I should introduce a new cereal and fruit each week

Does that seem like a lot? Also DD is on a antibiotic (augmentin) for 10 days for the ear infection. Shold I wait a few days for that to get into her system before I start new foods? Dr. said I could start right away, but I don't know.

Thoughts, comments, suggestions?????

Re: 1st foods question - HELP!

10 tsp of cereal?! We started with about 3 tspChat Icon The amount your ped is telling you seems outrageous. Make sure you make the cereal really runny. Also, in the beginning, most babies don't "love" cereal. I was lucky sometimes to get the 3 tsp in DD.

We introduced a new fruit or veggie every 4 days. The wait time is to make sure that there is no reaction so that part I understand.

IMO, that sounds like A LOT of food. 10 tbsp of cereal twice a day??? Chat Icon Our ped said 1 tbsp once a day at first, then increase to 1 tbsp twice a day (we are still at 1tbsp once a day though).

I'd definitely call back to check. Sounds like someone gave you crazy information!

That does sound like a lot. When we started Jacob on cereal, we gave him 1 tablespoon 2 times a day and a jar of veggies.
